About Me

Kameishia Wooten is a director and writer living in Chicago. She became interested in filmmaking while studying international cinema in a study abroad program in Europe. As a student, she interned with Oscar winning documentary filmmaker, Barbara Trent and Lifetime Television Original Movies in Los Angeles. Her first short, The Test, received 1st runner up in IFPs Flyover Zone Film Festival, and has screened in several festivals throughout the country. In 2008, Kameishia was selected as a semi-finalist for HBO sponsored Chase African American Film Legacy Challenge for her short story, Birthday.

Originally from Goldsboro, North Carolina, Kameishia received B.A degrees in Media Criticism and African American Studies from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She later earned an M.F.A in filmmaking from Columbia College Chicago. Her thesis film, Southern Cross is currently screening in festivals around the world and has received an award in the Drama category in the Student Films Across America Film Competition.
