What is RISK!?
RISK! is a free podcast (podcast = internet radio show) and live show at which people tell true stories they never thought they'd dare to share in public stories theyd normally just tell friends. RISK! has shows in New York and Los Angeles where a ton of talented folks such as Marc Maron, Margaret Cho, Lisa Lampanelli, Sarah Silverman, Michael Ian Black and many others have dropped their usual act and shown a whole new side of themselves.
The RISK! podcast features the best stories from our live shows, stories recorded in-studio and wonderful songs from a variety of musicians. Mashable.com said RISK! is one of the three best podcasts ever and Slate.com called it "jaw-dropping, hysterically funny, and just plain touching." The podcast currently averages 225,000 downloads a month, and fans write in regularly about how important the show is to them.
RISK!s host and creator is Kevin Allison, a beloved comedian, storyteller, storytelling teacher and member of The State (the legendary sketch comedy group whose cult classic show aired on MTV in the 90s).

Why is RISK! doing a fund raiser?
Since August of 2009, RISK! has been operating on a budget of... well, almost nothing.
RISK! is a labor of love. We have a large team of people who each spend a tremendous amount of time making the RISK! podcast every week.
In addition to making the podcast, the RISK! team runs weekly free open story slams, produces 2-4 monthly live shows around the USA, runs a storytelling school, and does everything it can to keep a This American Life-style show running without a This American Life-style budget of any kind. We dont have enough income to cover our payroll costs, let alone our additional costs for website maintenance, bandwidth for the podcast, publicity and marketing, touring, class space rental, and on and on and on. So now, were doing a public radio-style fundraiser here on IndieGoGo.com to keep RISK! running.
Until now, weve been getting by on favors, miracles, volunteers, a small amount of advertising income and one large donation from one of our biggest fans, but the till is almost empty, and the last thing we want to do is close shop.
What happens if RISK! gets fully funded?
If we reach or exceed our fund raising goal, we will be able to keep bringing you amazing stories on the RISK! podcast and at our live shows all around the country so you can keep listening from anywhere in the world and come see us in person as well.
Where The Money Goes
The RISK! team is based mainly in New York City and Los Angeles, where life isnt cheap. The money you donate will help us to cover the cost of paying our amazing team members so they can afford to keep working with us, as well as allow us to step up our touring, marketing and publicity efforts, which will help to make the show more financially sustainable, and in turn make it easier for us to continue to collect and share amazing stories from around the world with you, our audience, each week.
Right now, RISK! is a totally independent operation. With your financial support, we can improve our recording equipment to give you a better-sounding show for a more pleasurable listening experience. We can put more effort into getting out on the road and bringing a live RISK! show to your hometown. We can stop worrying about how to pay our bills and get back to doing all we can to constantly improve our fans favorite show.
