Bio: Jon Goldman is a filmmaker, animator and media artist. Since training at MITʼs Center For Advanced VIsual Studies in the 1980s where he received his Masters, Jon has produced documentaries and short
form animations for organization such as Al Jazeera International, WGBHLAB BOSTON, and the
Discovery Channel. For Al Jazeera He produced “WILMAʼS WARNING” about the Katrina/
RITA storm surge and its role in high toxicity in the gulf region.
His newest independently produced film “LAYERS OF LASAGNA” about a comedian named
David Lasagna is currently circulating in the festival circuit.
As a media artist his work has been exhibited around the world primarily in the form of
large-scale inflatable sculpture that perform. These large scale events have been produced
for DisneyWorld, The Trump Taj Mahal, ABC-TV to name a few. Jonʼs work is in the permanent
collection of the Smithsonianʼs Cooper Hewitt National Museum of Design. His work
is featured in several books including “ The Look of the Twentieth Century”. He has been
called a “digital renaissance man” by the Boston Globe.
Jon Goldman received his undergraduate degree from Connecticut College with a B.A. in
Theater focusing on Directing and Design. While there he studied at the Eugene OʼNeill
Theater Centerʼs National Theater Institute where he met Jim Uhls. He continued his work
in London, England, directing original theater works and staging environmental theater
productions there. But it was at MIT that he studied filmmaking with one of the fatherʼs of
cinema verite, Ricky Leacock ( cinematographer for Robert Flahertyʼs LOUISIANA STORY)
and computer animation with Betsy Connors.

What makes jongoldman different?
I used to design and build huge inflatable sculptures. These pieces, like 60 foot high sea urchins (bright yellow) 110 foot helium-holding pieces like the hydra, brought me to far-flung places like Asia. My work has as Newsweek has said always puts a smile on your face. But while this brought me around the world (quite literally) it exhausted me and I began to feel burned out. So I took my family around the world (eighteen countries in eight months) all in search of a new direction to go into. I had always been a painter and a filmmaker/mediamaker/ storyteller, so I figured it was there that I would make a mark. I have been working in animation and documentary filmmaking again and it is there that I devote the majority of my energies.

Filmmaker Jon Goldman Noodles Layers of Unknown Lasagna
Jon Goldman’s Layers of Lasagna, a new film journey into the mind of an unknown hilarious comedic performer is to premiere on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 5PM in the Cape Cod section of the 17th annual Woods Hole Film Festival. Both David Lasagna, the performer and the film's director, Jon Goldman will be in attendance.
Layers of Lasagna documents the comedian's one-man show, "The University of Dave Lecture Series” during which Lasagna invokes multiple characters and articulates the challenges for the thinking person in today’s society.
"He is trying to change the world, one audience at a time, with carefully hewn characters that share sides of his own personality," says director Goldman.
“This process is all about tenacity, collaboration, compromise and hanging in there, and in the end it is a great feeling of accomplishment for an independent filmmaker,” says Goldman. And yes, Lasagna is his real name.
