Our Story

Innervation Dance Cooperative (IDC) has been busy formatting two original contemporary ballets, Everyman and Gods, Monsters, and Heroes, based on classic literature, to tour to Chicago-area schools in 2012.

We based Everyman on the medieval morality play by the same name, a story of redemption, performing good deeds and living a life that matters. We set the tale to timeless, stirring music by Led Zeppelin. Gods, Monsters, and Heroes, set to contemporary music, tells various stories from Greek mythology, and educators can choose the myths they would like to see presented, customizing the performance for their students ages and studies. A study guide has been created for each show in an effort to enhance the students' and teachers' experience, presenting lessons about dance in general, about the literary works, the ballets themselves, and about how all of these elements relate to other subject areas. We had some wonderful experiences and feedback after taking Gods, Monsters, and Heroes on a few pilot tour performances earlier this year. Now the touring company is gearing up and eager to reach more young audiences, but we need your help!

The Impact

Today arts funding is at an all-time low and evidence suggests that arts engagement for kids and teens is more important and beneficial than ever. We remember being inspired as kids by visiting performers and we hope this tour will pay that inspiration forward by expanding young minds through exposure to meaningful movement, increasing students connection with literature by presenting literary classics in a visual and visceral medium, and creating life-long appreciators of dance and fine arts.

What We Need & What You Get
