We would appreciate it if donations are made via Pay Pal as this will mean that we will get the money as soon as you donate, if other methods are used (i.e. direct Credit Card) we will only get the money at the end of the determined period. The faster we get the money, the sooner we get our camera rolling.

If you have more to give, please feel free (and generous) to change the donation amount to more than 10 USD :) (we were told the suggested 100 USD was scaring people away - see we listen :))

Our Story

The participation of women in the Egyptian revolution didnt come as a surprise to us, nor do we view it as an extraordinary phenomenon.

Women are part of every society and form a part of the social, political and economical spectrum. It is history that tends in most cases to ostracize the participation of women and keep them in the shadow while highlighting the participation of men and attributing leading roles exclusively to them. This is why we want to document and share Her-story.

This project intends to shed the light on the participation of women and to document their experiences as part of the historical memory of the Egyptian revolution. It is also a tool for women empowerment everywhere and a source for researchers, students and everyone interested in the matter.

The investigation for the filming aspires to cover a variety of women from all spectrums of the Egyptian society and different regions in Egypt. The investigation will be continuous and work hand in hand with the filming crew. Our objective is to produce a minimum of two messages per week and make them available on the website as soon as they are done. So far the videos will be subtitled in English and Spanish, and we are working on covering other languages.

Each short video will be similar to a "profile" of each woman: her life/work before the revolution, her participation in the revolution and where she and her work stand today.

As soon as we get enough funding to cover the initial expenses of the equipment, website and first month, we will be posting two videos per week for everyone to share and use.

The videos will be in Arabic and we have included English and Spanish translations in our budget.

What We Need & What You Get

The low-budget project requires funding that will go for research, filming, the subsequent traveling to cover different areas in Egypt, post-production, subtitles and web administration and web maintenance.

We are also short on equipment that we are keeping basic for the first period: a camera , basic sound equipment, and a laptop that will serve for research and video editing purposes.

The planned initial period is of 3 months, with a minimum of two shorts produced and published per week. For this reason we would like to offer reasonable yet low-budget financial compensation for the team dedicated to this project.

The equipment bought will also be used for later stages of the project. Phase two will be covering various rural and peripheral areas and cities in Egypt. In a possible phase three, we also hope that in the future we will be doing the same in some or all of the revolting Arab-speaking countries such as Tunisia, Bahrain, Libya, Syria and Yemen. Phase two will span over 3 additional months and which will only require logistical expenses since we will hopefully cover the needed equipment in phase one.

We would appreciate it if donations are made via Pay Pal as this will mean that we will get the money as soon as you donate, if other methods are used (i.e. direct Credit Card) we will only get the money at the end of the determined period. The faster we get the money, the sooner we get our camera rolling.

Other Ways You Can Help

It is very clear to us that in our attempt to keep this project independently funded - mainly to have the chance of offering it under a non-commercial Creative Commons license for everyone to share and use - WE CANT DO IT ON OUR OWN and YOU HELP IS HIGHLY NEEDED.

If you cant donate (or have already done so) you can help us by putting the word out! Share it on your Facebook page, tweet about it and send it to your contact list. It would be awesome if you ask your friends to do the same. Indie Go Go has some great "share" options right here on this page, so check them out and be our voice.

We also welcome help and support from individuals, groups, and organizations who are willing to extend a helping hand by either large-sum donations or organizing fundraisers for us. We cherish anonymity but we will gladly credit those individuals, groups or organizations who extend such highly-needed support.

We are currently working on a "pilot" that we will be posting as soon as we have it done. The "pilot" will feature selected clips from interviews we have conducted for you to watch and comment on. We have also started a facebook fan-page to keep you posted on what we are doing, and posting relevant information about the course of the project.
