The Greasy Plate, A Short Film

10 Year-Old Claire and her Grandmother are about to encounter a little more than what's on the menu at The Greasy Plate

Our Story

The wind gently pushed the paper onward. It safely traversed the street, floated through an open door, and landed on the floor of the neighborhood diner. I got it! In the doorway, Claire held the paper above her head smiling in victory. The Greasy Plate was a place that Miss Harper, Claires grandmother, identified as undesirable and not worth her attention, neither now or in the past. But, The Greasy Plate, she will soon find out, is more than what it appears.

The animated storyboard you see above was specifically made to give you a idea of our vision for this short film. Ark Productions is a faith-based company, located in Chicago, with the mission to produce films that inspire laughter, encourage thought, and motivate change. We found a great story that we believe captures our mission and we're excited to see it come to life.

The Impact

We hope that this will be the beginning of bringing more stories like these to a wider audience. We believe film is more than entertainment; it is a mode of communication. Screen images are more than flashing pictures blended together to give the illusion of movement; these pictures are composed and edited to make statements. Ark is keenly interested in producing films that will make spiritual, social, artistic and economical contributions to society today and tomorrow.

What We Need & What You Get

Our goal is to produce The Greasy Plate this summer. We are aiming to raise $12,000 in production costs.  This includes casting, location scouting, hiring a crew, renting equipment, editing, food, and the like.  Any remaining funds from this drive will go to marketing the film and film festival fees.  With The Greasy Plate as with any future project Ark undertakes, will be a gauge by which to measure the public appeal of our mission, so your donation may be worth twice as much!
