This film is dedicated to the memory of Miranda, the waiter I always went to (he’s the waiter who appears talking to a costumer at 2:48). He passed away in 2009.
This video is just a small preview of the documentary. It doesn’t have any sound editing (all the sound you hear is only the one recorded by the camera’s mic. We had a directional mic on location to catch dialogues, which has not yet been synced nor edited).
That means this is really just an image preview (which, also, has not yet been totally treated).
“Eskimo” (Esquim in portuguese) is a restaurant located in the central area of Rio de Janeiro. Founded in 1963, it’s one of the only restaurants in the city that keeps its original layout and furniture. It’s highly frequented by office workers during lunch time, and opens from 11am to 5pm.
Each area of the restaurant’s counter is waited by the same waiter every day. That creates, over the course of time, a strong and friendly relationship between the daily customers and those waiters. People who attend to the place every day tend to wait for a seat next to his/hers favorite waiter instead of just sitting in any empty space.
I shot this film in 2008 and since then couldn’t find the time and resources (I.E. a good computer) to edit it. I’m raising funds so I can hire someone to sync and edit the movie sound; and another person to edit and color correct the whole film.
The film is expected to have a running time of 12 to 15 minutes and will be subtitled in english.
