THE BACKSTORY
The genesis of the DEATH WALKS THE STREETS project began as a screenplay in 2004. Written by James Zahn and Ben Brezinski from an original story by Zahn, DWTS was intended to be produced as an independent film. While a bad production deal and circumstances beyond the control of the creators prevented the original vision to be realized, the DWTS project evolved as interest from audiences also continued to grow. In 2006, DEATH WALKS THE STREETS found itself a surprise nominee for Most Anticipated Film at the SPIKE TV SCREAM AWARDS. In a category sponsored by HOT TOPIC, DWTS was included in a field with household names and franchise projects. PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLDS END took home the prize, though the experience of being a nominee was surreal and fueled interest in the project.
THE LONG DECEMBER: DEATH WALKS THE STREETS II was written as a sequel to the still-unproduced first feature. Bigger in size and scope from the first screenplay, DWTS II was added to the packaging for a potential DWTS franchise, leading to some industry readers enjoying the second screenplay more than the first.
By the end of 2007, Zahn and Brezinski took the reigns of the DEATH WALKS project once more changing focus from feature films to a comic book prequel.
The story continues to unfold in comic form, and in December of 2010 a renewed focus has been placed on bringing a cinematic version of the DEATH WALKS THE STREETS universe to life.
