Welcome to the Doublers Collective Campaign Page.

We are so grateful that you stopped by. Your support means so much to us. Thank You!!

First, what is a Doubler?

A doubler is a musician who can proficiently play more than one instrument. Typically players stay in one family or another, such as brass or woodwinds, but some are exceptional players that cross over. (Mike Crotty is one of those musicians!) The musicians in Doublers Collective play different combinations of Piccolo, Flute, Alto Flute, Bass Flute, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Sopranino Sax, Soprano Sax, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Bari Sax, Bass Sax and Bassoon.

Who Are We?

The Doublers Collective was founded in November 2010 by Monica Shriver. Made up of five in-demand saxophonists, Doublers Collective is a high caliber, enthusiastic group interested in exploring all the different colors made possible by so many different instrument combinations. Our mission includes performance, education and collaboration with composers and arrangers.

"I picked these musicians not only for their exceptional playing ability, creativity, passion and love for jazz and doubling, but also for their personalities. The five of us have so much fun playing and hanging out together. I couldn't ask for a better group of people to work with on a project like this."  - Monica Shriver

Why We Need Your Help?

As you can imagine, one of our challenges is that there isn't any music already written for a group like this that we can buy from a music store. So, we are forced to rely on commissions (and our own writing) to build a repertoire. On the plus side, this is actually really exciting because it gives us an opportunity to collaborate with some amazing composers and arrangers.

The truth is that we can do SO much more with your help. Doublers Collective's vision of reaching students, musicians, and composers across the world has already begun. We have performances and clinics lined up and more coming in on a regular basis. By donating now, you get in on the ground floor of a project that could change the face of doubling appreciation, performance and education. We are more powerful with your support. Help us make something big. Be a part of this exciting project!

What Will We Use The Money For?

The musicians in Doublers Collective are professional musicians who play and teach music for a living. The composers / arrangers that we are asking to write music for us are established, experienced writers. We are a part of this project because it is something that we are passionate about and believe in. The money that you donate will not be wasted.

Here's a breakdown of how we will use the $15000 we raise:

  • $10,000 to cover the cost to commission 8-10 pieces of new music.

  • $2500 to cover costs related to the recording and release our CD of commissioned works including licensing fees, studio time, CD distribution, etc.

  • $750 to cover expenses related to the premiere of 2- 3 commissioned works for Doublers Collective at the North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conference at Arizona State University in March 2012.

  • $750 to cover renting a performance space and paying Doublers Collective musicians to give a premiere concert of the commissioned pieces in Phoenix, AZ.

  • $1000 to use as prize money for a student writing competition. Two of the top original compositions will each receive $500.

"We take what we do very seriously - this is our profession and how we make a living, but we also have a blast doing it. Anyone who sees us play instantly notices how much fun we're having."  Monica Shriver

What Do You Get?
