AMERICAN REALIST PAINTER
Deborah Martin is a Los Angeles-based contemporary realist painter, fine art photographer and curator. A site-specific artist, her work eulogizes the abandoned habitats and domestic landscapes of small town America. Much of her practice emerges in collaborative conversation with writers and video artists, and takes form through exhibitions, installations and publications.
She is recognized for several pivotal bodies of work: Narrow Lands (Provincetown, MA), Home on the Strange (Salton Sea, CA), and America (U.S.). A catalog for her Home on the Strange project was published by Catalysis Projects in Spring 2010.
Deborah has exhibited in galleries and Museums in New York, Provincetown, Boston and Los Angeles. Her work has sold in auction at Sothebys and been featured in distinguished fine art magazines including the Fine Art Photography Publication of Light Leaks Magazine, and the Pacific Coast West Edition of New American Paintings Magazine.
Martins restoration work can be seen on the ceiling of St Vibianas Cathedral and throughout the Spring Arts Tower in Downtown Los Angeles.
In 2001, Martin renovated and restored a 1725 sq ft loft space which later became known as Studio 528, a highly sought out location for TV & Film for nearly a decade. In 2006, Martin Founded the Spring Arts Collective Gallery, located on the Mezzanine of the Spring Arts Tower with a small group of artists which she directed through January of 2009. The event drew crowds from 1,500- 2,000 and was noted as the gallery not to miss during the Downtown Art Walk. In March of 2009, with the support of Paul Su, Martin left the Mezzanine to completely renovate and open the Deborah Martin Gallery located on Gallery Row, which she curated and directed through March of 2010.
Martin received her BFA and BS Masters of Arts in Teaching, Art Education from The Museum School of Fine Arts, Boston and Tufts University. Martin is one of the four core artists of CATALYSIS PROJECTS.
