About Me

 

Matt is an accomplished playwright and screenwriter, director, graphic designer, disc jockey, and an award-nominated actor. However, his proudest accomplishment is being a father. Matt holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Speech Communication and Theater (00') with post-baccalaureate studies in English (04') from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. While at Clarion, Matt was a member of Alpha Psi Omega, the national honorary dramatics fraternity. Also, he was nominated for a Kennedy Center / ACTF Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship for his portrayal of Orphan in Clarion's production of Jones and Schmidt's 'Celebration.' As a theatrical professional, Matt has a plethora of experience in both the performance and technical aspects of theater. He completed his professional internship in stage management at the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera in 1999. An award-nominated actor, he received two Charlotte Theater Award nominations for his role as the Narrator in Theatre Charlotte's production of 'The Happy Prince.' Matt has had the opportunity and pleasure to work with such stars as Ryan Reynolds (Adventureland, Van Wilder, Blade: Trinity), Jake Gyllenhaal (Donnie Darko, Prince of Persia, Brothers), Director Greg Mottola (Superbad, The Daytrippers, Adventureland), Director Kevin Smith (Clerks, Chasing Amy), Director/Producer and Academy Award winner Edward Zwick (Glory), Emmy-award winner Rue McClanahan (The Golden Girls), Julie Ann Emery (Hitch), international recording artist and actor Jeff Trachta, and renowned New York / Broadway music director Michael Biagi. In 2003, Clarion University developed and produced the world premiere of Matt Croyle's play, 'Potential Inertia.' In 2004, Matt's play 'Trippin' the Back-lot Fantastic' made it's debut at Clarion as part of the university's second 'play-in-a-day.' In 2006, Matt's short screenplay, 'Jerry's Pub' was selected as a runner-up in the scriptwriting comepetition at the Great Lakes Independent Film Festival in Erie, PA. 'Potential Inertia' was also selected as a runner-up in the 2008 Great Lakes Independent Film Festival's Scriptwriting Competition. In October of 2007 Matt produced and directed 'Wine, Cheese, & Poe' to critical acclaim. December of 2007 provided Matt the opportunity to appear in Greg Mottola's film 'Adventureland' starring Jesse Eisenberg, Ryan Reynolds, and Kristen Stewart. Matt recently made an appearance in 'Zack And Miri Make A Porno' for director Kevin Smith and 'Love And Other Drugs' for director Ed Zwick. In 2011, the stage version of 'Jerry's Pub' received its world premiere as part of the Canton One-Act Festival in Canton, MI. In November of 2011, Matt launched the web series "Monster", which has been nominated for the Indie Intertube Audience Choice Award and also screened, and won Outstanding Achievement In Cinematography in a Mockumentary Series, at the 2012 Los Angeles Web Series Festival. Matt resides in Western Pennsylvania. He likes ice hockey and bodies of water.
