What this project is about
We are combining high technology and high art to create
something very special – the Rygo. Standing 2 meters tall, it will be the
largest such 3D print of any type in North America (quite possibly the Western
hemisphere) and will be installed for all the world to see at Gropp’s Gallery
of Vancouver, Canada. Crowdfunding the Rygo reflects the best qualities of
Vancouver – organic design supported by a grassroots movement. This is also an
international effort! The Rygo will be printed in Italy by Enrico Dini’s
DShape, itself the largest 3D printer of its kind, measuring 6 x 6 x 8 meters
(20 x 20 x 27 ft). The Rygo was designed by famous 3D designer and sculptor
Bathsheba Grossman of California, utilizing esoteric math and an artistic touch
to craft a piece that would have been un-makeable by any other means.
Everyone in this campaign truly believes that 3D printing
will shake up everything you thought you knew about design, construction, manufacturing,
architecture, sculpture….you name it. We hope you feel the same. Every contribution is going towards a leap in technology that
happens only once a decade.

What you will get
We have lots of awesome rewards. Although the Rygo will be
located in Vancouver, you will able to see and interact with the Rygo via the
internet. For $15 you will be given a password to our website and see the Rygo *live* via
webcam. Not only that, you will be able to change the colour and intensity of
the light inside the Rygo. We have the leafychain designed by me for $20. These
will be printed by our friends in New York, Buildatron, who have just released
a new 3D printer onto the market.

We have actual pieces made the DShape! For
$30 you will get a chunk of DShape print material – be the first in your city
to have a piece of history! From $75 to $300 we have small, medium and large 3D prints
of the Rygo made of clear plastic. You can put it on your necklace, put it on your desk.

For $500 and above, you can print off your own model! Say you have something from thingiverse.com or Google Sketchup? We can print it for you in solid rock with the DShape. Model must be 50x50x50 cm and have walls thicker than 5 cm. Please message us with a design that you would want printed.
For $1000 we have this lamp
designed by JF Brandon. Called “Niche”, it measures 1 meter tall (3 ft) and can stand
outside to illuminate the path or inside as a tablelamp. It was made using
Voronoi diagrams to make non-repeating holes to allow light through.

Where the donations are going
3D printing, shipping and installing the Rygo will cost close to $10,000. This includes Custom Duties and Taxes. 3D printing the smaller versions of the Rygo, the Leafychain, the Rochain or the Niche are a significant expense that must be covered. If we don't meet our target, we can print a smaller Rygo. But size matters! I don't think a smaller Statue of Liberty would have had the same impact as it did. Nor a smaller Eiffel Tower. And it certainly wouldn't be "the largest" 3D print in North America. The DShape is a 6 x 6 x 8 meter 3D printer.... so if we exceed our target, we might print a bigger Rygo!
