Thank you!!

I never thought that the goal would be reached so soon! I am so overwhelmed by your generous contributions and support.

The campaign was set up to last until December 17th. There are many great (postcards, prints, Mystery Perks, my book) still available. Please continue to spread the word about Common Ground as every little bit helps this project happen!

What is the project?

I will be documenting the everyday rituals (preparing and eating of meals, leisure time/story telling, morning routines, bedtime, etc...) of rural Kenyan families. during the months of February, March, and April of 2012. I will investigate parallels between Kenyan culture and supposedly disparate cultures such as my own.

Check out the Pitch Video is you haven't already!

Who am I?

I am a video artist exploring family, gesture, and space through experimental documentary methods. I started investigating family and culture in my work through personal experience. I'm an adult adoptee, and almost eight years ago, I met my biological family. This connection pushed me to examine kin relationships: looking at cultural similarities and differences, deciphering how I fit into each of my families (both biological and adopted), and how my newly contacted biological family fit into mine. Consequently, I experiment with visual material, exploring cultural parallels and the creative function of difference. I blend art and anthropology by deconstructing my documentary footage, separating and then reconfiguring the individual elements in the imagery - communicating my subjective perception, while remaining true to the context.
