New Feature! PayPal Added on IndieGoGo
We're excited to announce that we've added PayPal for all projects. All projects around the world can now accept contributions via PayPal.
Benefits include:
- Immediate disbursement: contributions are deposited to your project's PayPal account the moment they are made
- Funder Flexibility: many contributors prefer PayPal as their online payment method
Project owners: To add PayPal as a payment option for your project, go to your FUNDING section within EDIT mode.
Great news, I shall start using it right away. Well done!

This is pretty huge in my book. We're planning on a campaign in September and I was waiting for this news. Thank you for the diligence on this matter and making it happen!

It keeps asking me to sign in with my age in order to be able to use Paypal, but I don't see any place to do that!! Where should I look?

Hi Deborah,
You can update your Year of Birth on your individual page. Simply:
> click on your name in the upper right corner
> click on EDIT MY PROFILE and go ahead and update your year of birth.
Cheers

Hello, Danae:
I am attempting to fund the project http://www.indiegogo.com/LEGENDS-OF-MADAGASCAR using Paypal as payment method, but 'am having trouble. It keeps asking for a credit card number!! I have a Paypal account in good standing. What gives?? Something is not working quite right here. Help, please. Thanks!

I posted this in the forum, but still no reply
I’m unclear on how this works. It says above that I can use my own paypal account to raise money, which means the money goes right in my own account. What I don't understand is how IndieGoGo gets paid.
Do I send them the 4% or 9% after it’s all over? Or will they be asking me for that money upfront?
Also, I’m unclear on whether I can just use my own paypal account or if that will just be an option and some funds would go through IndieGoGo's credit card account
Thanks
Henry

Yes, you are very much right, you cannot open a PayPal account for Charity, if your charity is registered in India, same thing happened with me also, I applied a Charity account for my client and after completing all the formalities they just denied for the account.
I have a suggestion for you, apply for a normal account with some other website and then use it for your Charity website, I have list of websites who are doing the same thing.
You can also try some other Payment Gateways like CCavenue, but in case you are using Vbulletin script, I don’t think so that it may help you. The first suggestion may work for you.

Be careful. You may piss off a lot of funders because IndieGoGo is listed as a cash advance vendor. I was charged an additional $10 by Chase VISA for paying with PayPal.

This is indeed great news, especially for members outside of the United States. I will start this rightaway, and will definitely highly recommending this to my friends :)

Can anybody explain why since my project's start date, 4 days ago, paypal continues to refuse to accept payments saying I can't accept them at present?! I've already lost days and I have people wanting to donate who I keep having to put off while I wait for this issue to get sorted!
I have spoken with paypal and it's not an issue at their end apparently as everything is verified and in working order...

Hi David,
We're looking into your account. Have you confirmed your PayPal account as well? PayPal accounts need to be both verified (bank account added - which you've done) and confirmed (email address confirmed).
Cheers!

Hi Danae
I havent received an email...
I checked my paypal last night and for some reason they had removed the USD currency option I added upon set up so I re-added that and made a $1 donation which worked, however, I have been told this morning by someone wanting to donate for the last few days that it is still not working... :-/

I noticed that PayPal is charging us $2.25 for every $25 donation to us all before the campaign is over. Is that supposed to occur? I feel this question is even more important after reading Henry's question about it.
Posted by: Daniel | June 22, 2011 at 05:43 PM
Hi Daniel,
Yes, PayPal witholds the 9% each time a contribution comes in, and charges its standard fee (based on the type of paypal account you have. Generally, the PayPal fee is about 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction). Then at the end of your campaign, we disburse 5% back if you met or exceeded your funding goal by your deadline. You can find more info on our fees here:

Cheers!

Thanks very much, Danae for your quick reply. I checked PayPals website and can confirm your numbers. If anyone else is interested, I found PayPal's fees on this page: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-fees-outside

Quick question.
If a funder in the UK makes a contribution to me using a UK bank or debit or credit card with paypal it goes through in US dollars. Is the funder charged any fee for the currency conversion?
Thanks.
