How One Book Funded Itself through Pre-Sales on IndieGoGo

DarkMountain What a great way to use IndieGoGo!  The writers of Dark Mountain wanted to turn their recently published manifesto into a full journal!  One problem, they didn't have the funds to even publish a small first edition. Materials, design and typesetting aren't cheap, you know… $2,267 to be exact.

Power of Pre-Sales

Pre-SoldCopies So what did they do?  They turned to IndieGoGo and pre-sold copies of their future book…to fund it!  Plus they offered special signed copies for a few extra bucks and a promise to send it it anywhere in the world, including the South Pole, when done.

238Percent
238% and Rising

How much have they raised?  Way more than they hoped, and they're still pre-selling copies.  Currently, the Dark Mountain team raised $5,390 (or 238% of its original goal).

Jump Starting Self-Distribution

So not only did IndieGoGo help the Dark Mountain team raise money, but its helped them jumpstart their distribution efforts too.

Website Integration

Incorporating their IndieGoGo campaign onto their website, also helped!

About the Book:

The Dark Mountain Project started with a manifesto,
written by Paul Kingsnorth and Dougald Hine, which sparked
conversations around the world. Now we are drawing together those
conversations in the first issue of Dark Mountain
– a book-length collection of stories, essays, poetry and interviews
from writers negotiating the edge of the world as we know it, finding
paths into the unknown world ahead.
