5 Useful Blogging Tips |
Slate.com posted a few great tips on how to blog from famous bloggers like Ariana Huffington and Om Malik. While posting announcements on your IndieGoGo profile is a little bit different than writing on a regular blog, there are still some very familiar elements. Fans want to know how filmmakers are doing, and blogging (or Twittering) is the best way to do it. Here are some of Slate.com's tips listed below, and how you can translate them into a successful campaign for your project.
1) Set a schedule, blog often
Like I said before, fans want to know what's going on with a project or a filmmaker. Keep them up to date by blogging as often as you can. Commit to posting once or twice a week. As you do it more, you'll get used to it. Fans will appreciate your posts.
2) Don't worry if your post sucks
You don't have to have the best writing in the world to blog. You don't need to spend an hour on each post. People like short, quick-hitting posts, so you should keep it that way. It takes time to get used to writing, but the key is to be consistent.
3) Write casually but clearly
Keep a conversational tone in your writing, as if you were talking to a friend. Short, clear sentences are the way to go. That makes it easier for your audience to read. The last thing you want is for them to get bored.
4) Pictures
Use the media section in your IndieGoGo profile to do this. Post as many pictures as you can- production stills and the like. People like seeing images and this will increase the traffic on your IndieGoGo project.
5) Don't worry about traffic.
Just write. Don't worry about who is reading. As long as you are enjoying yourself by writing, people will gravitate to you.
Use this advice and you'll be a great blogger in no time. Remember that all your IndieGoGo friends receive an e-mail when you post an Announcement. They can also subscribe to an RSS feed so they can stay up to date with your announcements. To subscribe, just click on the orange icon in the announcements section of each profile. Announcements are a great way to have a blog without actually having to make or maintain one. For some more blogging tips, check out the Slate.com article here.
