The Production
Till You Get To Baraboo began life as a stage play by Emmett Loverde called RSVP Regrets Only. It was published by Grimpenmire Press of Oregon and received several small productions. Unfortunately Grimpenmire folded not long afterward. After seeing a staged reading of the play, a friend suggested that it might make a good movie. A short time later the script was reborn as Till You Get To Baraboo and a search began for a cast and crew.
Writer-Director Mr. Loverde cast three actors with whom he'd worked on previous projects: Tom Schanley (Mr. Loverde's Snacking, Mergers and Acquisitions, and Santa's Letters); William Mendieta (Santa's Letters, A Timely Maneuver, and Beauty, Brains, and Personality); and Amanda Noret Reed (A Timely Maneuver). From a round of auditions held in Los Angeles by Casting Director L.J. Waters, Mr. Loverde selected Jennifer Siebel Newsom and Genevieve Zweig as well as most of the supporting cast.
Shooting lasted twenty-one days in Los Angeles, Encino, Long Beach, and Las Vegas. Mr. Mendieta, Cindy Ware (producer of A Timely Maneuver), and longtime friend Jon Tompkins joined Mr. Loverde as producers. Mr. Loverde also chose music by an artist with whom he'd grown up in the San Francisco Bay Area, David Grossman. Mr. Grossman's career spans over thirty years and more than ten albums.
Till You Get To Baraboo was initially funded by private investors. All the cast and crew were paid modest sums. All the principal actors are members of the Screen Actors Guild working under the SAG Ultra Low Budget Agreement. This was a labor of love, truly, but also a source of employment for these folks.
The Release
Till You Get To Baraboo is starting film festival screenings, the first of which will be July 25, 2011 at the Action On Film International Film Festival in Pasadena, California. While film festivals can definitely help launch a project, they can be a crapshoot. What we are attempting with Baraboo is to find our audience and build interest in the movie.
Ultimately the team hopes to earn back the initial investment plus a profit and to fund future movie projects.
