Don't Take Our Word For It, Play It!
We encourage you to watch our video and read our pitch, but more importantly we think you should play our game before you contribute. We have created a demo that you can download right now and share with anyone. For both PC and Mac.

What?
Back in December 2009 we created a game called Backworld for a competition at popular independent games site TIGSource. After the competition we got featured on the game blog Rock Paper Shotgun and have gotten some good feedback.
We have been quite busy since then with our jobs and moving around, but we have been playing around with making a full version with new mechanics, levels, graphics etcetera. So now we have created a demo and are hoping to develop a complete game.
So who are "we" then? We are two Swedes named Juha Kangas and Anders Ekermo that met while working at a game company. Juha is trying to be a jack-of-all-trades nowadays but has previously worked as a gameplay designer and game designer for a total of 3 years and done a few hobby games. He is currently trying to go "indie" and develop Backworlds. Anders is working as a game programmer and has 6 years of industry experience as well as having made tons of hobby games. He will continue with his day job but contribute with his wizardry in all fields.

The Game
We would like the demo to do the talking, but here's some information about what's planned:
The demo has 5 levels and 2 bonus levels without much stuff around that. But for the full game we are planning (or already have prototypes) for:
- More features (backworld mechanics, interactive objects, carryable objects, collectibles etc.)
- More levels and bonus levels with new environments
- A storyline
- Achievements
- "Arcade" game-play mode
- Public level editor
- ...maybe more stuff that we haven't come up with yet!
Our ambition is to create everything ourselves for the game, except for some sound effects and voice-acting, just like in the demo.

The Campaign
The money raised will be going to some software, a voice-actor, sound effects and some living expenses (for one of us). There are also other expenses surrounding the development such as running a website to keep everyone updated on the process.
Our planned development time is 1 year, but it may vary depending on how much funds we raise and other factors such as the need to iterate on the game-play.
There are a bunch of perks ranging from credits mentions up to being directly involved in creation of art for the game, but they all provide you with a digital copy of the game once it's completed! If you have an idea for a perk you would like to see, let us know.
Everyone who contributes will have the opportunity to give feedback during the development and we will be doing updates continuously, be it in podcasts, blog posts, newsletters or something else.
The game will be released for both PC and Mac and you do of course get a copy of both versions with a pre-order. The game will be completely DRM-free.
