As a parent who has lost an only child, there can be that feeling of helplessness, that wish that you could have done something more to save your child. This film touches on that, and you get the feeling of the hopelessness and despair experienced by Helen and Frank, when their kidnapped child turns up dead. The only solution, they think, is to kill each other, and this is where the story takes a most surprising turn.
