What's all this then?
In a nutshell, the creators of the award-winning indieTV series GOLD and Night of the Zombie King are producing a new webseries: Alice & the Monster, a romantic serio-comedy about a young woman battling cancer. We need your help to make certain it is the best that it can be.
Who is making this webseries?
The Alice & the Monster principle* cast are:
- Shannon Nelson (Drop Dead Gorgeous) as Alice
- David Nett (GOLD) as David
- Abigail Marlowe (Community) as Bonnie
- Lilas Lane (Alien Siege) as Dr. Richmond
- David H. Lawrence XVII (Heroes) as Mike
and
- Anthony Geary (General Hospital) as George
The production team (through Punisher77 and Lucid by Proxy) is:
- Andrew R. Deutsch (creator/writer/producer)
- David Nett (writer/producer)
- Rick Robinson (writer/director)
- Frederick Snyder (director)
- Shannon Nelson (producer)
- Lilas Lane (producer)
- Marla Deutsch (producer)
Why should I help?
Alice & the Monster is a completely independent production, funded by the creators.
We've a track record of making critically-acclaimed, award-winning independent content. But we need your help to make the show to the highest possible quality.
Our goal is to produce and distribute Alice & the Monster under the Fan Supported, Creator Distributed model as outlined by ZombieOrpheus, meaning we create our show on our terms, with the help of the people who will watch it. The more fan support we raise, the better our show will be. Even the smallest donation helps.
Plus, since our production is under the umbrella of the not-for-profit arts organization Lucid by Proxy, your donations may be tax-deductible. We'll send you a receipt, and your tax preparer can work his/her magic.
What will you do with the money?
- Rent additional gear to provide the highest quality audio and video
- Pay for great locations which improve the overall quality of the production
- Feed all of our people well (human beings need fuel)
- Create great additional content to broaden the world of the show
- Improve the quality of the music, sound mix, color correction, and overall post-production
- Market our final product so that we can get the audience and distribution the show deserves
- Pay for those actors and crew who are giving generously of their time and talent
What happens if you don't meet your goal?
We'll make the first season of Alice & the Monster regardless - in fact, we'll be making it while this fundraiser is happening. If we don't meet our goal, there are three major changes: because the whole budget will be coming out of the creators' pockets, the scope of the project may have to be smaller, once we're done making it we have to sit on it longer trying to get additional sponsorship and distribution deals to make up the difference, and those deals may require the show to have limited distribution (geo-blocked, behind a paywall, etc.). If you donate, you'll always get what you helped pay for, but if we don't make our goals, it'll just take (maybe a lot) longer to get to you.
Okay. I'm convinced. What can I do?
Thank you! First, take a peek at the perks to the right, pick the one that best fits your needs, and donate. Second, tell your friends to donate as well. Third, if you have a blog or website, use the tools on this page to embed a link to the campaign; discovery is the enemy of independent art - if you help us spread the word, there's no telling what we can do!
You promised to tell me more about the show. Give it.
Like I said, you can always find the latest info at www.aliceandthemonster.com, but here's more detail:
Alice & the Monster is a romantic serio-comedy centered around Alice Hughes, whose life is going great - success in her job, great friends, a new romance - when she's blindsided by a diagnosis of cancer. She's faced with a decision: play out the wonderful things happening in her life in what short time she has left, or undergo a dangerous treatment and long rehab, and risk losing everything she's gained for a slim chance at longer life.
Alice & the Monster mixes drama, romance and humor as Alice struggles to make this monumental decision amid the reactions her cancer elicits from the people around her.
Production will run from February through March 2012, with a tentative release scheduled for later in the year.
