For the past 10 years, Andrew has been the Project Director for Slow Food Denver’s Seed To Table School Garden program. He has been involved in the growth of the STT program from 4 school gardens to over 35 school sites. Chef Nowak has helped to develop a Youth Farmers’ Market program that appeared in 25 schools last year and received funding to implement the YFM model in food deserts in Denver. For the past 2 years, Andrew has also been the community partner for Denver Public Schools’ School Food Learning Lab, helping the Food and Nutrition Services source local foods for the cafeterias. This past summer he assisted DPS in a Scratch Cooking Boot Camp by bringing in local chefs to help train district cooks in scratch cooking techniques.
Chef Nowak has been a culinary professional for over 30
years. He has worked in
restaurants in Iowa, Pennsylvania and Colorado, has owned a catering and
personal chef business and is recently a chef educator for Slow Food
Denver. Chef Nowak also has a PhD.
In Psychology from the University of Iowa.
He receives amazing support from his wife, Lisa, who supports the family with her surgical practice. Chef Andrew also devotes his time to his two high school children, Nicholas (18) and Sarah (16).
