About the Director and Working Blues roots

Hello everyone! My name is Micheal Dirnberger, and I am a senior at the Kansas City Art Institute. I have been working for the past 3 months on pre-production for my senior thesis project Working Blues. This is a student film and is crafted as my Graduation project for my BFA in Digital Filmmaking.

Why?

Why (?) you may ask should you invest in this mans dream of filming a short film and graduating. Honestly, its because we all know how hard life can be on those around us, and every helping hand counts. This project aims to bring forth some of the deepest fears that everyone has regarding finding and keeping a job. In this economically tense times, the voice of those that work hard just to make ends meet needs to be told more often and louder then ever before, and by joining us on this project, you can help make a difference in peoples awareness of the work crisis. This project is going to be shot in Kansas City Missouri and the cast and crew is comprised entirely of locals that wish to share in the same voice from our film community.

The Reality

The unemployment rate was 9.8% across the United States of America in November (http://www.bls.gov/cps/). This film aims to show just how strenuous the search for work is. This film aims directly at confronting the fears that are on everyones minds and on the lips of those reading the news.   In confronting these fears and the tension that builds between the characters, we aim to let people know that even though times are hard, there are people that care and understand. If this project does not reach its goal of funding, then I will work towards filling the remaining financial gap out of my own pocket and stretching out the post production as far out as needed to get this project completed so that the respect that those that work hard to live can be honored.

Logistics

This project will begin principle filming In January and wrap for screening in April.  The tentative screening date is April 22nd at the Tivoli theater. This project will be filmed on the Cannon 5D which has already been purchased by me for the production. Lighting equipment and additional set equipment is being utilized from the Kansas City Art Institute. Co-produced with Jason Hunt, Sound by Joe Concha and editing is to be completed by David Berry. The Funding assistance will be used to help the Director in terms of providing Crafty services for his cast and crew, as well as pay them for their time and hard work they put into this project. What ever is left from investment will be utilized to get this short out on the film festival circuit to spread the understanding of the working class and to give recognition to the local filmmakers of the KC metro area.

Unable to donate?

No worries if you do not have the funds to help. This project is about that type of situation. The most powerful tool in getting this project across the finish line is word of mouth. If you believe in this, then please, spread the word, share it with your friends, coworkers, loved ones, strangers on twitter, tumblr, blogs, anywhere. The more interest we can generate in this idea. Then the better off the end product can be.
