Wolfys Journey is a film about self-discovery, friendship, art and nature.
This film, an unconventional musical of one puppets journey to self-discovery, is a collaboration of many talented souls- puppeteers, filmmakers, artists, musicians, editors and writers. While I carry the vision and make the majority of the characters as well as produce it, I receive great help and support from my dearest colleagues in turning this vision from dream to reality.
My goal, not just with this film but with my work- which is making films with puppets- is to spread the joy and vitality in the world. I believe I do it best through my films; though I know I spread joy as a teacher of art and puppetry to my wonderful students, the medium where puppets meet film is my forte. Through it, I aspire to reach the world- not just here in NY, but everywhere theres a small monitor, so to touch peoples hearts. The basic human need for love, friendship, understanding, laughter, awe, curiosity, imagination, creativity- all of which come through my work, is what I aim to express and elevate. Through Wolfy, and his fellow mates he meets throughout his journey, I trust that some of these ideas and needs are addressed and gently met.
As you may imagine, making a 45 minutes film is time and money consuming. At this point my goal for fundraising lies simply on covering costs of materials, recordings and labor, and I do not wish to earn anything for myself. I put my heart into this piece and if I can cover the technical parts, than I will be more than grateful.
Heres a short summery of where the money will go:
- 6 puppeteers
- 2 musicians
- 3 camera men
- 1 editor
- 1 studio assistant
- 3 days of Recording studio for 8 songs
- 3 days of Voice-over for film once filmed and edited
- Materials for puppets and sets
- Rental of space for 6 days of shooting
If you find that you can contribute, I would be grateful to you for the next century to come! You will also receive some magical perks that are mentioned elsewhere on this page.
This film is scheduled to premiere at 3rd Ward in Brooklyn, NY, on January 9th, 2011. If all goes by plan, that is when it will happen. After that, many more venues to come, I assure you! You can follow my work via my website which is www.leat.klingman.org
Ive been told time and time again that my ambition does not meet how reality works. I wish to believe differently.
To sum it all up, heres a quote from Wolfy-
Out in the world there is plenty to see
Youve got to take chances and let yourself be
Eating the world is a passion to follow
Do it with love, chew before you swallow.
Follow, follow, your hunger inside
Swallow, swallow, try not to hide
Wish, wish, for your inner star,
Youre close to my heart even when you are far.
Thank you for your time.

A short summary of the film:
Wolfy has embarked on a journey of self-discovery. I want to eat the world!- he says, but how is still undetermined; yet his mind is set out for an adventure. Joining Wolfy, we sail with him on what is to be an enchanting, musically, challenging and endearing path. Amongst the fanciful characters Wolfy meets on this path there is an Italian one-winged bird and a magical French dragon; much joy, words of wisdom and questionable tricks are to be presented throughout his journey, and Wolfy confronts them with his gentle yet curious way, with the help of a long lost friend.
A rare moment, for those who are young at heart.
