Our Story
In this film we meet the members of 1.PKO, a swimming club based on the banks of the Vltava river in and specialising in swimming outside through the winter in near freezing water temperatures. It isn't just a few crazy people but an organised sport with frequent races through the winter season. In fact in the Czech Republic it is some of the most extreme winter swimming in the world due to the long distances and excellent organisation. We come across various characters including Tomas and Tania who prove that the power of ice cold water is the power of life itself.
The Impact
Just think - your core body temperature is around 37c, an indoor swimming pool is 27c and when you go swimming during the summer at the seaside the water is about 20 - 25c. In winter the temperature of open water drops to around zero and some people swim in such water for up to 22 minutes, whereas for most people taking their gloves off and dipping a hand in for 1 second would be quite enough!
This film promotes outdoor exercise and our interaction with nature. This film will be uplifting and will encourage people to try the extreme yet exciting and exhilarating sport of winter swimming.
Shot during one of the harshest central European winters for many years, with an abundance of ice, snow and freezing temperatures, the film features beautiful cinematography from the award winning Jan Mika (Junior).
Swimming is an incredibly popular leisure time activity and the film holds appeal for all kinds of people across the world.
Hopefully after watching this film people will be inclined to embrace nature, be more active and even try winter swimming for themselves!
What We Need & What You Get
I have tried to be as conservative as possible in my estimations of how much money is needed. The film is in post production and in need of funds in order to continue and finish this important phase of the project. I estimate that I can have a finished professional final cut of the film if I can raise $3700. As I have already mentioned in the above section the film will be visually impressive but judge for yourself by viewing the trailer and I am sure you will be wanting to see more.
Depending on how much you actually donate you would of course have some kind of stake in the film. Have a look at the VIP perks section for more details. We have some really good and unique perks on offer.
Other Ways You Can Help
To find out more about the growing sport of winter swimming have a look at the website www.extremewinterswimming.com and also follow the project on facebook and twitter. If you like I what I am doing but cannot help financially, don't worry, please share the details of my project with others. Maybe you can't invest but you know someone who might in which case point them in this direction. If someone helps me in such a way (by directly referring a big investor) I am sure I can extend the perks to some extent depending on the situation. As many people have have said to me in the past "We can always come to some deal."
Please get in touch if you want to discuss either the project, the sport of winter swimming or indeed for any other reason. I welcome all commments and suggestions and look forward to hearing them.
