In Colombia, the battle to control territory continues to fuel a 60-year-old armed conflict among guerrilla, paramilitary and state forces. The result has caused the forced displacement of some four million people. For more than 515 years, Colombias 102 indigenous nations currently composed of nearly a million and a half people have struggled to protect their land. In the context of Colombias cruel warfare, they are one of the populations most victimized by ongoing violence. During the last six years alone, 1,244 indigenous people were assassinated.

Weaving Wisdom reveals how Colombian indigenous nations are defending their land, lives and autonomy amid the social and armed conflict that pits guerrilla fighters against U.S.-sponsored government security forces and paramilitaries. Weaving Wisdom is set inside three indigenous nations inside Colombia where the struggle for indigenous rights has survived more than five centuries of oppression. The film follows three indigenous women leaders in southern and northern Colombia as they struggle to overcome human rights abuses and to protect to their land and lives from the armed conflict. Through the womens stories and those of their people, this film puts a face on Colombias complicated conflict.

The film portrays three Colombian indigenous activists. We see Flor Ilva, the first female governor in the Nasa territory of Jambal, as she peacefully leads her people to confront the paramilitaries armed fighters occupying public spaces. We meet Doris, a 25-year-old Aw governor, who was saved from being killed herself when the army massacred five other Aws in her village, with her name on the killers list. Ludis, a Kankaumo widow and mother of four, is imprisoned on false charges of rebellion then released a year later for lack of evidence.

Weaving Wisdom exposes the human rights abuses in rural Colombia where armed conflict threatens the survival of Colombias 102 indigenous nations. Although the protagonists face militarization, killings and imprisonment, this is a story of womens resilience and hope.
