1-26-2012 - I would like to thank all of you for your generous support throughout my mom's fight with ALS. My mother Michele' Ray passed away on January 23, 2012. I wanted to assure you that your donations will go to the funeral costs instead of her healthcare. If anyone would like to attend the service or send flowers it will be Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 11AM. About Me and Our Situation

Hi, my name is Shelby Ray, I'm 19 and I have been an ALS caregiver for 12 going on 13 years.
The woman in the video above is my mother (Michele) who was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) in 1994. My grandmother and I have been her soul caregivers, helping maintain her health and spirit over the years.
In 2006 my father left my mother because he could no longer support her financially. Caring for P.A.LS (Person’s with ALS) patients is a full time job. You CAN NOT Leave their side. With the departure of my father my mother was placed in a convalescent home. This prompted my grandmother to immediately move to our city (West Covina), rent a house, hire caregivers, and continue my mother’s home care. Once I was old enough my help started and has been ongoing ever since.
What Your Help Will Mean to Us...
As far as her insurance in concerned, since my mother and father are both legally married my mother does not qualify for any government assistance what so ever. “So why not get a Divorce you may ask?” Well... with lawyer fees, conservator's fees, filing fees, and power of attorney fees..we can't afford one.
Right now my biggest concern is my mother and my nana’s well being when I am ready to move out. I need someone here to take my place which would be a live in care giver and or multiple around the clock caregiver’s. Realistically, my Nana is 74 years old and cannot pay the bills, take care of the house, and care for my mom all alone. Even with me here we still struggle. In a perfect world my mother would have a Physical Therapist, A Bather, and a Wound Care Nurse at least once a day. But in reality we have a wound care nurse that comes once a week via Kaiser and the rest is up to us. I do what I can to help out financially, but even going to work means I have to leave my Nana here to care for my mom by herself which is dangerous because she doesn't know all of the equipment as well as I do, it is physically demanding, and she's very nervous in emergency situations (which happens quite often). With my Nana’s age it is also coming to a point where I am looking after them all alone.
Roughly it costs $2,300 a month at the rate of $12 an hour for caregivers alone.
I am only asking for $3,000 ... Any little contribution helps! Please donate.
Help me reach my goal or more if you feel compelled to give as it will be such a blessing for us. All your donations will go directly to the help and care of my mother. Your help would give me peace of mind that when I am away at work or school, everything at home is okay and when I get a call from my grandmother it's not about my mom going to the hospital. Your help will also allow us to be able to leave the house from time to time with Peace of mind that she is being taken care of.
