Our Story

Wall of Dreamers is a feature-length documentary film that will follow the life cycle of a certain song, from its composition through performance by an established artist. I'm the producer of the film, Bruce Endres. Along the way, we'll explore the musical roots of Douglas, Arizona, the historical but economically struggling town where the song was written. (As an example: "Ghost Riders in the Sky" was inspired by the clouds over Douglas.) And we'll step into the lives, art, and music of some of the colorful modern-day residents, as they find ways to keep smiling in the face of rising unemployment and a 50% poverty rate.

The song is "Lela May", written by local musician Bruce Northey. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcwuPd_MGP8) The first time I heard him play it, the song deeply touched me... to the soul. The idea for the film was born that day. And although I'm not at liberty to name-drop, I'm thrilled to say that certain well-known figures in the field of documentary film and the music industry have agreed to help me realize my vision.

The Impact

Douglas was once a boom town. The beautiful Grand Theatre on Main Street was regarded as an essential stop on the national Vaudeville circuit. Proceeds of Wall of Dreamers will support the ongoing restoration of the Grand Theatre, (www.grandtheatredouglas.org) as well as development of the new Art Car World Museum (www.artcarworld.org) -- attractions with the potential to help renew the vitality and economy of this historically significant community. (Full disclosure: I'm the manager of the Grand Theatre and on the board of directors of Art Car World, two of the non-profit organizations benefiting from this project.) Funding for this campaign goes directly to the Douglas Arts and Humanities Association (AKA The Grand Theatre), a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization. If you choose not to accept a perk, your contribution is tax deductible. Non-Perk contribution categories are listed.

What We Need & What You Get

Our IndieGoGo campaign is intended to get the project off the ground. We need to prepare a sample video to support our ongoing funding efforts. We have set our goal with this in mind. Our YouTube channel represents ongoing research into Arizona musicians. (www.youtube.com/user/WallofDreamers) Two videos on the channel are central to this project. Wall of Dreamers is the theme song. Lela May is the song to be professionally produced and recorded as the central theme for the film.
