Volunteer Nation is about the millions across the country who feed the hungry, clean-up local parks, support abandoned animals, mentor students, and perform countless other integral but often overlooked services that power our communities and continue to keep the United States as a beacon of hope, democracy, and opportunity.
Produced by award winning San Francisco Bay Area based filmmakers, Volunteer Nation tells personal, human-interest stories with a creative, web 2.0 sensibility – a cross between the storytelling of NPR and Showtime’s This American Life and the excitement of Discovery’s Mythbusters.
VN profiles extraordinary Americans who volunteer and the series gets to the core of their story: Why do they volunteer, and what happens when they do? Over 60 million Americans choose to give their time annually. VN finds the most compelling of these and tells their story.
The series is packaged in thirty-minute episodes, and each episode is made up of three stories, connected with an engaging host. Each story will also be available as standalone six to nine minute vignettes for easier online distribution and mobile device consumption.
