The Story

I am Estephan Wagner the award-winning director of this feature-length documentary.

VANISHING WORLDS tells the story of 3 communities, at 3 locations around the globe, that face forced relocation due to changing climates. The permafrost under our Alaskan village is melting and their houses sinking. The embankments of our Indian island are collapsing and the sea is swallowing all land. The desert is encroaching our Chinese hamlet, drying every field and creek.

We are following one family at each location, from the collapse of their livelihood and their forced relocation, to the start of a new home elsewhere.

The Impact

With this documentary we want to see how real people affected by changing climates face their future. Where do you go if there is nowhere to go? We want to portray the ones that are at the forefront, those who pay the real-live price.We expect VANISHING WORLDS will broadly play on festivals and on television.

We have been once at each location, building up relationships and making initial filming.

With the collected funding we will be traveling to Alaska, India and China, to film again with our characters. Their relocation is imminent, we need to get there before it's too late.

A reward for your Help

The money raised by this campaign will fully flow into the production. Transport and accommodation are the biggest costs. But items such as food, insurance or translation also need to be paid.

We have the complete camera, sound and editing equipment, so nothing is going to be spent in buying stuff. Every dollar, euro and pound will go into making this documentary!
