Faced with the science of climate change, rapper Dizraeli (BBC UK National Poetry Slam Champion 2007-9) has vowed never to fly again*. All good, until he is offered a golden opportunity to perform in Egypt. After a brief struggle with the devil on his left shoulder, Dizraeli decides to stick to his principles, exchange quick convenience and aeroplane food for a continent-sized slice of chaos, and go overland. Accompanied by documentary photographer/filmmaker Billy Macrae, he has two weeks and less than £500 to get to Cairo. The pair will travel through Central and Eastern Europe, then on through Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Israel and Palestine. Crossing countless borders and barriers, and doing as many shows as they can, they will broadcast their journey to the world: as a daily blog, a weekly video diary and finally, a documentary film accompanied by a full-length album. Once this film/album project has grown up and flown the nest, UnPlaned.com will become a hub for others with advice, warnings and stories about overland travel, to ease other people who want to unplane themselves.
If Dizraeli doesn’t make it to Cairo in time for the show, he will lose his entire budget for the trip. The risk is very real: the Middle East is a notoriously sticky area for border crossings, and there is a distinct possibility that Diz and Billy will be refused entry at some point along the way. One thing is certain, though, whatever happens: an adventure awaits.

| HOW THESE FUNDS WILL BE USED |
| We're raising money for three stages of this project:
Stage One : $1,627
Getting the filming done! Billy, our glee-faced cameraman, can't come on this trip at all unless we raise the money to pay for the train and bus tickets to Cairo and back. We also need to cover the difference between what the good folk in Cairo have budgeted for Dizraeli to fly there, and what it will cost for him not to fly there.
This small sum will allow the first and most vital phase of UnPlaned to take place.
Stage Two : $3,598
The first thing we'll do if we raise more than $1,627 is pay George Smerin, the very talented and generous who designed the UnPlaned website on trust, the $470 we owe him for his work.
Another two grand (UK pounds) will allow us to get both the documentary and the album made properly, with studio time and equipment included. It's not much at all by most standards, but we can get it done on a shoestring.
Stage Three : $3,129
Yet another two grand will pay for the design and manufacture of the double DVD/CD pack, with a 10-page booklet of Billy's photography, in a beautiful recycled card sleeve, printed with vegetable ink, and manufactured by Media Movers, a small independent company based in Brixton, London.
Total end fundraising goal: $8354 |

Hello folks!
You might notice that the funding goal has changed from $1,627 to $5,225. This is because something wonderful has happened: we’ve passed our first funding milestone ($1,627), and have moved into Stage Two ($3,598). We never expected this to happen this soon: thank you so much to all the people who have donated through IndieGoGo so far, and also to all those who came to our fundraising event on the 24th of Feb. It was an amazing night, and we raised 550 quid, or 850 dollars, depending what side of the pond you fall on.
What this all means is, we can now definitely get to Egypt and back! Up ‘til now, we’ve only been able to afford tickets as far as Vienna, in one direction. Now we’re booking the rest of the journey. We’ve also paid George, the genius who built our website, for his services (he kindly let us delay til we had the money).
And so, UnPlaned rolls forward!
This next stage will be paying for the equipment and studio time we need to get the documentary and album actually made… Here’s hoping.

A big, broad Thankyou to everyone who came to Big Up Your Mouth last night. We raised over £500 for UnPlaned, and everyone left with a smile. The Passing Clouds was jampacked with human beings, and the Boxettes amazed us all. And thanks, of course, to everyone who’s donated through the website. I’ve had this same problem; I really wanted to give the album a listen, but I can’t find how to download it.
Me three! I can’t work out where I need to go or what I need to do to download the album. Am I missing a link somewhere?
