Roky Erickson is a man few have ever known, let alone understood. Rock n Roll god, warrior, and unconstrained soul that was tortured by a society that was not ready for him. One of the most emphatic prodigies that man has ever known; and this world must be told his story in entirety. If you care about Roky Erickson, musical innovation, or sharing a damn good story; we call on you for help. Together, we can show the world a balance of genius and madness that few have ever witnessed.
Roger Kynard (Roky), has been plagued with poor enforcement of authority, and an overall spell of misfortune. Recently he has become grounded in his music once again, and is about to kick off a monumental tour with his son, Jegar Erickson. Starting in California, the tour will move to New Zealand, Australia, and finish up in Austin during SXSW for the Ice Cream Social at Threadgill's. The tour is going to happen no matter what, whether it is documented and shared is the question.
Documentarian and director, Mike Mann is preparing to join the Ericksons on this tour and encapsulate the entire experience. This film is not about making profit nor is it about expressing an opinion; it is about being a fly on the wall during an incredibly iconic tour. If you know the story of Roky Erickson, he is most joyous when wielding a guitar. If you don't know the story, then you don't know one of the most remarkable vocalists that has ever lived.
This isn't about a man, this about a legend whose influence has spider-webbed across nations. All money that you contribute will go into the project, and NOT into the filmmaker's pocket. This is for music, for metal, for the American Dream. The more money; the more cameras, more footage, and more experiences that otherwise may be lost. Not only will you see Erickson as a musician, but as the father figure few have ever had the chance to witness.
True music fans are rarely called upon to create; this is one of those times. Roky is a prodigy, a prodigy that most likely will not be found again. This is an opportunity for you, your children, and for the rest of humanity to understand one of the most prolific musicians to have ever lived. This may be the last chance to comprehend who exactly Roky Erickson is, and without documentation the answers may forever be lost.
$10,000
$5,000 toward plane tickets, hotels, and food (Roky only flies)
$1,000 toward extra gear (hard drives, memory cards, extra camera batteries, etc.)
$4,000 toward hiring LOCAL crews in Australia and New Zealand to help film the live concerts
Think about it: If 1,000 Roky fans gave only $10, this could happen.
