Tot La Momposina embodies that fertile ground where Colombias African, Indigenous Indian and Spanish cultures mingle to create a unique musical tradition. Her entire life she has dedicated to preserving and representing Colombias Caribbean coastline traditional music, and that dedication has given her a solid place in the cultural identity of her country. Nonetheless, Sonia Bazanta, the woman, the daughter, the mother, and Colombia’s musical ambassador, has a compelling past marked by countless sacrifices and critical moments of survival. Retracing her steps, she embarks on a journey filled with memories of being displaced by civil war as a child, singing in the Paris Metro as a struggling musician, and becoming the renowned world artist she is today. Parallel to her ancestral and personal journey, Tot will travel on her first European tour in 5 years and will engage on a succession of artistic collaborations as a “Cantandora del mundo” during a important creative transition in her life. And it is here, in this key moment of her international career, in the midst of challenges and triumphs, and with this documentary film that Tot is willing to open her heart and soul to reaffirm that her fundamental need is to preserve her identity and to continue being the woman that lives to sing and that sings to live.

Tot La Momposina personifica ese smbolo frtil de Colombia donde la cultura africana, indgena y espaola se mezclan para crear una tradicin musical extraordinaria. Toda su vida la ha dedicado a representar la msica del litoral Atlntico colombiano y esa dedicacin le ha dado un lugar slido en la identidad cultural de su pas. No obstante, Sonia Bazanta, la mujer, la hija, la madre, y la embajadora de la msica colombiana, tiene un pasado marcado por incontables sacrificios y crticos momentos de supervivencia. Trazando geogrficamente por primera vez aquellos pasos decisivos en su vida, Tot se embarca en un viaje de memorias como cuando todava muy nia fue desplazada por la violencia con su familia y el momento en que ya adulta deja todo atrs para cruzar el ocano y termina cantando en el metro de Paris hasta convertirse en la artista internacional que es hoy. Paralelo a este viaje de recuerdos ancestrales y personales, Tot har su primera gira por Europa en 5 aos, al tiempo que se involucrar en colaboraciones artsticas como “Cantadora del Mundo” durante una importante transicin creativa en su vida. Y es aqu en este punto clave de su carrera internacional, en medio de retos y triunfos, y con este trabajo documental que Tot abre su alma y su corazn para reafirmar que la necesidad fundamental de su existencia es preservar su identidad y seguir siendo la mujer que vive para cantar y que canta para vivir.
