To Whom it May Concern;
My name is David R. Cook and I am writing in concern of a recent situation that has come upon myself in regards to a small dog that I've recently rescued. I've given the dog a name, Milo. From his looks, he seems to be a Begal mix. At approximately 2:30pm Tuesday, January 31st, 2012, I was driving along highway 12 from Pasco, WA to Walla Walla, Wa. and noticed a dog running back and forth across a two lane, usually very busy highway. I quickly asked my friend to pull over so I can assist the dog, that obviously was confused and scared due to the middle barrier that separated the opposing lanes of traffic. I called for the dog, in which he seemed to respond, slowly strutting my way. I could see that there were cars and a semi truck coming down the road, which I quickly stood in the middle of the highway waving my hands in the air. As this was taking place, Milo was running towards me and a car which was traveling in my direction did nothing to slow down, whipped by me at 60mph, five feet from hitting me, and hit Milo. Without even hitting the brake pedal, the car continued on its normal path, disregarding the simplicity of taking my life and Milo. I managed to get the semi truck and on coming traffic to come to a stop and run to my car to grab a blanket. Milo was laying in the road tossing and turning from being hit. He was whimpering and crying. It was quite obvious there was a broken back leg and not sure the extent of his damage due to all of the blood on the ground, on Milo and myself. I quickly grabbed him and bundled him in the blanket and drove as quickly as I could to the nearest animal clinic, praying to God to let this dog survive and give him my strength in the mean time. In this promise I would take care of him as a loving owner should. I drove to the nearest animal clinic hospital which was 40 minutes away, praying on the way that this dog would make it. He looked at me with his big brown eyes and I told him to hang in there because God allowed me to be there to help him. A miracle in itself, we made it to the Animal Clinic of Walla Walla, located at 2089 Taumarson Road, Walla Walla WA, 99362, where Dr. Bret performed his evaluation. He informed me of his injuries and has been able to stabilize Milo. As of current his injuries included, a broken back leg, x rays to determine internal herniation/bleeding, lacerations, bloody jaw, shock, and I'm sure a multitude of bumps and bruises. Dr. Bret checked to see if Milo was micro chipped to establish some ownership of the dog, which showed up negative. The doctor informed me that due to state law, he has 72 hours in which to find the owners. In the case that he is successful in doing so, the owners have 3 options: option one would be to assume responsibility of the cost of the hospital bill; option two would be to deny the treatment which would result in euthanasia; option three would be to sign over the right to adoption to myself and I would assume the legal and financial responsibility. In this matter, hopefully option one or three would prevail. I do believe that finding the owners of Milo will be bleak. Since having Milo taken to the animal hospital I have assumed the care and financial responsibility of making sure he gets the appropriate treatment and deserves a second chance in life. In doing so I am writing to whom it may concern for a helping hand in assistance with his medical treatment that would help Milo in receiving a second chance at life that was almost abruptly taken from him and as easily myself.
Sincerely David R. Cook
