Our Story

Land of Nod is an independent film that is about to start shooting.  It is the love story of those who betray.

After he kills his brother, Cain is banished to the Land of Nod, which then becomes the land of the traitor and the wanderer. This is the premise our film takes as a starting point, and from there we tell the story of a friendship and portray a paralyzed generation, how they experience love and find each other in solitude.
Despite her loving Tomas, Nadia falls in love with Mateo. Every character then has to live out his or her fate; we become witnesses of that falling in love that leads to betrayal and the fulfilling of the lovers' passion. It's about the decisions one has to make in love, the sacrifices one makes for the people we love, the sacrifice of letting go, of setting that which one loves the most free and live in solitude. This is a story with no heroes or villains; our characters are only humans who make mistakes towards themselves and others, where infidelity is lived and understood as if it was our own, walking hand in hand with the narration, thoughts, readings and wishes.  

I am Jimena Montemayor, graduate from the CCC in Mexico City, specialized in film direction and cinematography.  Land of Nod is my first film.  This project comes from my need for telling stories and the difficult task of translating these stories to film. It's a small, independent project which was conceived this way from the very screenwriting. The money available for making this movie comes from the director's and the photographer's pocket, making our resources extraordinarily limited. Tierra de Nod es una película independiente mexicana que está por empezar su filmación. Es la historia de amor de quienes traicionan.

Tras matar a su hermano, Caín es desterrado a la Tierra de Nod, volviéndose esta la tierra del traidor y del errante. A partir de esta premisa contamos la historia de una amistad, el retrato de una generación paralizada, de como viven el amor y se encuentran en la soledad.
A pesar de amar a Tomás, Nadia se enamora de Mateo.  Y es así como cada uno de los personajes aprenderá a vivir sus destinos.  Somos testigos de ese enamoramiento que lleva a la traición y la consumación del amor entre los dos amantes.  Se trata de las decisiones que uno tiene que tomar en el amor.  De los sacrificios que uno hace por la gente que ama, el sacrificio de dejar ir, de soltar lo que más se añora y vivir la soledad.  Una historia que no tiene buenos ni malos, los personajes son solamente humanos que cometen errores hacia los demás y consigo mismos, en donde la infidelidad se vive y se entiende como si fuera uno mismo, acompañando la narración, pensamientos, lecturas y deseos.

Soy Jimena Montemayor, egresada de la carrera de realización cinematográfica en el Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica en el DF, especializándome en dirección y cinematografía.  Tierra de Nod es mi opera prima. Este proyecto surge a partir de la necesidad de contar historias y la difícil tarea de concretarlas en cine.  Es un proyecto pequeño e independiente que se concibió de esa manera desde la escritura de guión.  El dinero con el que se está levantando la película proviene del bolsillo tanto del fotógrafo como de la directora y esto hace que nuestros recursos sean muy limitados. The Impact

I'm interested in talking about responsibility, being responsible in life, in misery, in violence, in making decisions and fulfilling them. Being a part of a collapsed society and a troubled, chaotic country, young people sometimes choose to ignore the reality around them, focusing only on themselves and trying not to think about the role they must play to help right the wrongs that have put Mexico in such a delicate situation. I want to portray this negligence in order to generate awareness, showing how no man is an island and that whether we like it or not, the smallest action can have an effect in the world around us. We are all a part of the puzzle, and what was a definitive piece has now changed shape, changing the shape of the entire puzzle. Nadia, Mateo and Tomás find and choose each other through this story, and they transform throughout it. I hope this message reaches and touches witnesses of the Land of Nod.  This film won't be able to finish without your help, we are truly thankful.

Me interesa hablar de la responsabilidad, del ser responsable en la vida, de la miseria, de la violencia, al tomar decisiones y cumplirlas. Al formar parte de una sociedad colapsada y un país atormentado y caótico, los jóvenes a veces eligen ignorar la realidad a su alrededor, enfocándose sólo en sí mismos y tratando de no pensar acerca del papel que les correspondería jugar para ayudar a enderezar lo que ha colocado a México en una situación tan delicada. Me gustaría mostrar esta negligencia para generar conciencia, mostrando que nadie se encuentra aislado y que, nos guste o no, la más pequeña acción puede repercutir en el mundo que nos rodea.  Todos formamos parte del rompecabezas, lo que era una pieza que ha cambiado de forma, cambia la estructura de todo el rompecabezas.  Es por medio de la historia que estas piezas que son Nadia, Mateo y Tomás se eligen y se transforman en el transcurso de la historia.  Espero que este mensaje llegue a quien sea testigo y espectador de Tierra de Nod.

Tierra de Nod no podrá terminar de filmarse sin la ayuda de todos ustedes por lo tanto se los agradecemos de todo corazón.

What We Need & What You Get

We need 8,000 usd in order to be able to finish our movie. The money will be used for insurance, catering, equipment leases, gas and transportation for the three and a half weeks of shooting. If we don't manage to raise everything at once, we'll shoot as much as we can with what we get and keep on trying, so any donation you can afford will be greatly appreciated by every single one of our cast members.

Necesitamos 8,000 usd para poder terminar la filmación de la película.  El dinero obtenido será utilizado para pagar seguros, alimentación, renta de equipo, gasolina y transporte para las tres semanas y media de rodaje.  Si no logramos juntar todo el dinero, seguiremos tratando de hacer la película por partes así que cualquier donación es agradecida por todos y cada uno del crew.
