Our Story
About a year ago I met some amazing people who were members of a
group called the Society for Creative Anachronism. At first the
name seemed odd to me, but it only took one fighter demonstration
with men AND women in full armor hitting real blows that showed me
how amazing a group this really was. At the same time, I
fell in with film makers and I learned a lot from them on the fine
art of making movies.
It was during the 2011 True/False Film Festival in Columbia, MO
that I realized the cinematic potential the SCA held. From
there I set out to make this possibility a reality.
The Impact
A huge injustice done to the members of the SCA is the common
misconception that they are members of local Renaissance Festivals or
Live Action Role Players (LARPers). Nothing could be further
from the truth. The SCA is a group founded in real history.
Most participants have a love of history and research that would make
most academics blush. Everything they recreate, from armor and
furniture to brewing and cooking is borne from a love of authentic
history.
To me, by downplaying that focus on real history, hard working,
generous and kind members of the world-wide organization are horribly
belittled. I aim to change that.
What We Need & What You Get
I plan on filming for 18 months and covering
events that will have thousands of people present. We'll be
traveling everywhere from Japan to Europe to complete full coverage
of this organization's epic size. We'll follow multiple
participants in depth from all over the country.
The result will be a documentary with more excitement and intrigue
than a summer blockbuster. You can rest assured that every
dollar raised will go on screen. Yes, it is a large amount, but
combined with the material we have to work with, the final product
will be far greater than the sum of its parts.
Other Ways You Can Help
If you can't donate (and trust me, I've been there, I understand)
then you can still help! In this wonderful digital age of ours
you can get the word out to people with the mere click of a button.
Share this on your Facebook pages, e-mail it to friends who don't
have it. Got any friends that aren't on the internet at all?
If they hate modern technology, they'll probably love my project!
What better time to show them your computer?
We won't be able to do it without you. It's a time when we
can all help in creating something amazing to give props to a group
like the SCA that is normally overlooked. We'll appreciate
whatever help you can give, and hope you'll be there when we
premiere!
