They came...from the FUTURE

Ive been invited to perform 60 minutes of my works as part of Cincinnatis Contemporary Arts Center cac:44 program, and for the concert have selected pieces of mine which have a science fiction theme. The program will include world premiere arias from my opera in progress, Building a Better Joshua, a near future retelling of the Narcissus myth (with a libretto by poet Kendall A) in which a woman clones an upgraded version of her husband, only to find the original man falling hard for his copy. Also, I will complete a trilogy of sound collages from movies based on Phillip K. Dick novels to be premiered at this event, and will perform two pieces from my electro-acoustic series, Sounds from the Gray Goo, named after the apocalyptic scenario involving self-replicating nanodevices drowning civilization.

What We Need & What You Get

For the ultimate They came... From the Future!!! experience to occur, wed need approximately $6000:

Musicians and artists: $4300 - this comes out to a little over a $600 average for each of the seven pieces on the program, including time spent in rehearsal and travel reimbursement split among ten principal live musicians and other local performers/artists for pre-recorded or supporting stage set portions for the works.

Sound and video technicians: $800

Instrument rental/transport: $200

Administrative/advertising costs: $700

Coming up short in funding will mean the artistic vision of the performance wont get completely realized, first by cutting out the visual staging elements of the production, second by lowering the standard of musicianship/skill of the hired performers, or finally by cutting pieces/performers from the program altogether.

For the first part of this IndieGoGo campaign, were wanting to show that theres a base level of public support for the project that we can bring to foundation or corporate givers before asking them to contribute.
