Our Story

Mark wasn't feeling well. Tired, sore and run down he went to the doctor. Tests were ran. More tests were ran. Even more tests were ran. Then, two weeks before his 50th birthday, Mark was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer that had metastasized to his liver. The whole family was shocked. Mark was suddenly thrust into the battle of a lifetime. He felt Sucker-punched.

Mark spent his years quietly helping others. As a broadcast technician at a national Christian Radio station, he enjoyed building the "brains" of the stations that poured life giving music into the hearts of those listening. His wife, Rebecca, had been a job coach for adults with disabilities before leaving to work with a faith based filmmaker in order to change lives through media and learn a new career. But since the diagnosis, she has been home helping him recover making Mark her full time job until something else can open up. While both Mark and Rebecca have been home they did the only thing they knew to do, use this opportunity to seek God, document their journey and encourage all around them.

The Impact

Making little more than 30k a year, Mark was the sole provider for a family of four. Finishing up bankruptcy in September 2011 was a great relief. But now they face what every American fears, overwhelming debt due to unforseen medical bills to save his life without the possibility of filing bankruptcy for another 10 years. On top of that, their 18 year old son was aiming to enter college in the fall of 2012 to get his degree in digital film making and their 12 year old daughter wanted to become a singer/songwriter if her parents could ever afford private lessons.

What We Need & What You Get

While Rebecca is attempting to get work to assist with finances and continuing medical coverage, they need at least $5,000 to cover medical costs, nutritional items and organic foods.
