Our Story (or, who the heck we are!)
The Seeing Place (from the
Greek "Theatron") is a professional theater company in New York
City that serves as a base for disciplined artists to develop theater we all
want to believe in. Comprised of 16 actors, 3 directors, and more than a dozen
guest artists, The Seeing Place has created a true ensemble, committed to
forceful storytelling that discovers and expresses real behavior in this day
and age.
This season, were raising
money so that we can offer performances at a price anyone can afford -- $10 per
ticket. A donation of $3000 will cover 50% of our theater rental, so that we may
discount our tickets to the general public. We think that's a rockin' good idea.
Our Company Members: Mary Anisi, Amanda Baker, Kathleen Brower, Michael Stephen Clay, Erin Cronican, Rick Delaney, Elyse Fisher, Debbie Friedlander, John Gazzale, Reesa Graham, Michael Jefferson, Ben Leasure, Ned Baker Lynch, Joe Mancuso, David Sedgwick, Nick Velkov, and Brandon Walker.
What They're Saying about us (it's good!)
"If you like serious theater, this is the real deal..." -- Cheryl Benton, The Three Tomatoes
" The Seeing Place brought their characteristic (and indefatigable) enthusiasm to the piece...sincerely and without affectation." -- Molly Hagan, Broadway World
"How often does the opportunity arise to see an example of one of the greatest American playwright's work produced by a company that takes their work as seriously as this one does, and delivers results that prove how effective that work is?" -- Toby Ring Thelin, Theatre Knights (& Daze)
Our work (or, what gets us excited!)
Each season, we present 5
different kinds of works to New York audiences:
Contemporary/Modern Play: (ex:
how we handle common problems in todays society.)
Classical Play (ex: plays that
have stood the test of time: Shakespeare, Chekhov, Moliere.)
Urban Play: (ex: stories set in
New York City or other urban center.)
Americana Play (ex: plays that
are characteristic of America, its people & its culture.)
New Play (ex: developing a play
through the process of ensemble improvisation.)
Past seasons have included Keith
Bunin's The Credeaux Canvas, Hogan
Gorman's Hot Cripple, the
World Premiere of Brandon Walker's When We Have Gone Astray, Clifford Odets' Waiting for Lefty, John Osborne's Look Back in Anger, and Shakespeare's Twelfth Night.
And just take a look at what were
bringing you for Season Three
Season Three's Theme = "Crimes of the Heart and The Politics of Sex"
As one could expect with a theme
like this, The Seeing Place is bringing you deep, searing dramas sprinkled with
the kind of comedy that keeps us
human. This seasons characters are dark, lustful, stormy, witty and hopeful.
Theyre not satisfied with the status quo, and thus fight, claw and joke their
way through making a better life for themselves.
Were proud to announce our 3rd

In Becky Shaw, no relationship is
what it seems when the boundaries of friendship, family and lovers collide spawned by one really, bad date.
Rocket to the Moon by Clifford Odets (Spring/Summer 2012)
In Rocket to the Moon, Odets
explores the mid-life crisis and the reality of desire - would we stray if
there wasnt a devil whispering in our ear?
Other Ways You Can Help
We're hoping to reach our goal, and perhaps more, by word of mouth support from people just like you. You can start by tweeting or sharing on Twitter and Facebook that you donated, along with a link back to this page. This will encourage your friends and followers to see what you're supporting. (If you like it, so will they!)
If you're in New York City (or Tri-State area), you can also help by spreading the word about our shows. We can't deliver great theater if we don't have an audience to deliver it to - please come out to the theater, and bring a friend!
