Raising $11,000 for "THE ART OF AUTISM"

Our goal of $11,000 will print the 2012 edition of the full-color Art of Autism book and offset costs for the live, theatrical and art installation events scheduled in 2012.

Be a Part of the Art!  Build futures and grow careers with people on the autism spectrum.

The ART of AUTISM is a project that incorporates The ART of AUTISM book, art shows, live theatrical entertainment events, workshops, and films to shift consciousness and awareness regarding autism. We are committed to promoting talented artists on the autism spectrum and educating the general public. We support artists through mentorship, building resumes, portfolios, and direct work experience. Participants in past events report an improvement in self-esteem, executive functioning skills, media exposure and often a sense of community that they have never experienced before. Most importantly, they make friends and lifelong connections. The majority of money raised from the Art of Autism art sales goes directly to the artist. A portion also goes to a local nonprofit who hosts the show.

The Autism Shift: Shifting Consciousness

People on the spectrum often internalize the negative messages broadcast on the media. We provide an alternative to those messages; focusing on the positive aspects of autism.

Testimonials

"The Good Purpose Gallery was set up to show the work of professional artists throughout the year including professional artists who are on the Spectrum.  We recently tied a one person show of Esther Brokaw's (savant, autistic artist) in with a showing of student work from our young adults who have Asperger's Syndrome and Learning Differences.  That lead to creating a dual fundraiser 3 day event with the Art of Autism at the end of the show.  The show was heart warming and people asked specifically for us to bring it back for a longer length of time. This idea led to the creating of two additional gallery spaces near the main gallery that will show the art of artists on the spectrum in rotating 6 week segments, 7 days a week, year round.  Getting us totally on mission of providing visual arts opportunities to those on the autism spectrum."

Turning Gifts Into Action

artists in the Art of Autism collaborative

The ART of AUTISM has had art shows since 2005. In 2011 we went international debuting five major shows in the U.S. and Canada. In 2012 we are planning many more. Funding will support the publication of The ART of AUTISM: 2012 Edition, featuring more art, 35 more artists, and poetry. Essayists in the new edition of the book include Dr. Darold Treffert (expert on savant syndrome), Dr. Stephen Shore (author and international speaker),  Dr. Colin Zimbleman (depth psychologist and expert on autism), Dr. Rebecca McKenzie (Psychologist and expert on autism), Elaine Hall (founder of The Miracle Project), Keri Bowers (Film maker and international speaker), and Debra Hosseini (author and art curator).

The book is a tool to be used by contributors to promote their work in commerce, social, and other media. Our goal of $11,000 will print the book ($7,000), and ($4,000) to assist with expenses of art and entertainment shows in 2012. When the book is complete, each contributing artist, poet, and essayist will receive a free copy of the book and the opportunity to purchase additional books at a reduced cost (if we receive funding for this project).
In 2012, we are planning:

Houston, TX      Nashville, TN      Various locations in California    Israel   ????

Details and collaborators will be posted on our website - www.the-art-of-autism.com. If youd like to be involved in one of these locations or add your own, see levels of giving. Wed love to come to your town and create the magic of the ART of AUTISM.
