What
it's all about...
In
the golden era of British pro wrestling, Brooks was Irelands
biggest star and a true national hero. Having dominated the scene for
years, Brooks was embroiled in a bitter rivalry with his protege
turned adversary in a fierce battle for the Irish National
Championship. It was a rivalry that took them both to new heights of
fame and fortune, even after British wrestling disappeared from our
TV screens.

Many
years later, Brooks invited a camera crew to follow and investigate
his legacy as he made his bid to recapture that title on the biggest
show of the year. But there was one problem.
He
wasnt booked.
Written
by James Tyler, a wrestler and showrunner for Source Wrestling in
Glasgow, Undying Legacy is a part-improv mockumentary striking back
at the dark portrayals of 'The Wrestler' and 'Beyond the Mat' to show
the light hearted, humourous and just plain bizarre side of wrestling
that's often overshadowed by the need to write something
misreable.
Inspired by accidental wrestling legend Dennis
Stamp and the theater work
of Rob Drummond who, In February 2011 stepped into the ring in front
of theater crowds
to blur the lines between reality and fiction, Undying Legacy is
taking things one step further to show how blurred the lines are
between what happens in the fictional world of the wrestling ring,
and the ego, antics and general strangeness that makes it happen
backstage as we follow the forgotten star, Mickey Brookes, on his
path back to the spotlight.
Undying Legacy will be filmed as a
ten part series of ten-minute shorts to be broadcast online that will
follow Mickey Brooks as he tells us about his career, his downfall
and tries to slide his way back into the spotlight in a completely
different era.
And
what's the point...?
The
real benefits we hope to achieve is to help boost Source Wrestling -
a non-profit organisation that spends all it's time and
money on advancing talent for little in return. We hope to work
alongside the talents developing in Glasgow to give them a bigger and
better platform to perform on and let them get their talents on a
project that will, hopefully, be seen worldwide.
Another
major factor we want to present is to show that there is a world of
wrestling outside of the internationally known company, that these
young men and women are dedicating their life to their art - and that
it is an art form with a lot more to offer than most people
realise..
And the big one, the important one... we just want
to make people laugh and enjoy watching the show!
I
dig it. So what are you spending the money on?
What
we need is rather simple. We have sourced and gained some of
the equipment required to produce the work however to make
it worthwhile we need to find a little more for sound production and
editing. We don't want to scrape by and deliver a substandard
product, but give the talent a platform they deserve to be
on.
We'd also
like to give the talent something for their efforts, regardless of
how small that is.
The stage and settings can be handled
through Source Wrestling which saves a lot of money and regardless of
how much, or how little, we raise, we'll still be going ahead as
planned in February.
Cool (and the gang). So
what do I get out of it?
What
you get? Again, it's simple; Everyone who donates will be offered a
part in the project. On screen, credited, the whole works.
What
else can I do to help you's guys out?
If
you're a fan of wrestling, or just want to see something that'll make
you laugh, please shout and scream as loud as you can, share and if
need be - put people in a figure four leg lock until they donate ;)
