Our Story

SCARLETHREAD, Tonic and Stimulus Incorporated are excited to introduce the production of The Underlying.  In the vein of classic series like Night Gallery and Twilight Zone, The Underlying builds upon subtle tension - leaving the audience both entertained and challenged by its climax.

SCARLETHREAD is the new production shingle headed up by award-winning filmmakers Tommy Wood (Writer/Director) and Steve Casper (Producer/Production Designer).  Joining Tommy and Steve, are producers Justin Geer (story by) and Palmer Wallace.  The Underlying is further complemented by an incredible cast and crew of filmmakers spanning from Atlanta to LA.  Individual bios will be posted in updates very soon.

The Underlying - Synopsis

A lonely mans humdrum life brightens, when he meets a mysterious woman while walking home from work.  Marian is so enchanting, that Henry doesnt question her motives, origin or propensity to linger in the local cemetery.  As the relationship grows, conversation turns toward Henrys future and his lagging poetic ambition.  What Henry doesnt know, is that there are sinister forces at work, and the dream of a life with Marian, could be a nightmare worse than death.

The Underlying will be shot in late February or early March of 2011.

The Impact

What We Need & What You Get

We are looking to raise $7000.  About $2000 of that goes to lighting, makeup and set operations.  Another $3000 goes to music and visual effects.  The last $2000 goes to publicity and festival entry fees.  

We will be approaching specific underwriters within our circle of influence, but we want to give you the opportunity to be a part of this unique and compelling entertainment production.

All cast and crew (including the director and producers) are doing their part for free.  However, if you check our past work, you will see that we do not skimp on production value.  There are a few things we need to spend some money on... Wardrobe, Special Effects, Catering and Music are at the top of that list.  It's vital that our props, effects and wardrobe match the level of the production.  Cast and crew will enjoy real food on set... not pizza and cupcakes.  Although that sounds really good.  Lastly, music is where we are investing a fair amount of the budget.  Accomplished composer Steve Dorff has agreed to score the film, and we are working now to license a new song by the rock band Alter Bridge for the end credits.
