Help a motley crew of artists take it to the streets! We
need to buy green building materials to get our trailer on the road by June
25th We
are a multi-cultural troupe of musicians,
dancers, actors, hip-hop poets, puppeteers and visual artists based in Southern California who want to
take our art where the spirit moves us. A 1951 trailer will be our home base.
Well roll into under-served communities, using art to help bring people
together. The trailer is being
restored RIGHT NOW from the ground up. We need your help to turn it into green
place to live and showcase art. Our
deadline is June 25th. Thats when we're hoping to
participate at the Watts Village Theater Companys Meet Me @Metro II. The event is an opportunity for folks who use
public transportation to see mini-performances at Metro stops between the Watts
neighborhood and Long Beach. Meet
Me @ Metro II is our first event of the summer, but it wont be our last. We
have lots more performances lined up. We'll
go into local communities in Southern California, performing at fairs, festivals
and museums. We'll show up at parks, barber shops and farmer's markets. Our art explores a common theme: the meaning of home, community and
identity. The Pitch Most of us
are graduates or students of California
Institute of the Arts. Like a touring band of performing gypsies, we will
bring everything we need with us stage, lights, sound and seating. We will stage exhibits, concerts, plays
and puppet shows. We are going green! We will operate off-grid with solar-powered
equipment. That means we can go where the spirit takes us - in densely populated
urban areas or out in the desert. We've already raised $20,000 - We've also received donated green
building materials, including equipment for our solar system. Your donation can help us obtain: (1.) A
window rebuild for puppet shows:
We want to re-engineer the front curved windows so that they will be able to
pop-out. That will extend our performance space, breaking down the physical
divide between the "inside" and the "outside" of the
trailer. (2.) Solar
Power (3.) Energy-efficient lighting and sound equipment (4.) A
portable stage (5.) Modular
furniture: a dinette booth used for poetry readings and art making. The
booth will transform into kid-size bleachers for indoor performances. For all
this to happen we need to raise $12'000 by the time I graduate in May with an
MFA in acting from Cal Arts. Then we can work FULL TIME finishing up the
restoration by the end of June. Short on cash? Here are other ways to help: 1. Donate
your art, building materials or volunteer your home or art space for a
fundraising event - you could donate green building materials or donate
some art-work which we would auction off in an up-coming event. We're also
looking for building volunteers (send us an email!). 2. Share
your contacts - Connect us with like-minded groups or individual artists,
curators, promoters and anyone who'd like to work with us, invite us to their
venue, book us for an event, etc. 3. Make
some noise about us - Participate in Facebook conversations about the
project. Make comments and suggestions. You can also help us create a Trash
Buzz by sending your friends a link to this campaign via your Facebook page,
Twitter or email. (It really helps!) Post your suggestions... Please! Donations Are Tax-Deductible Trailer Trash is a member of Fractured Atlas. Donations are tax-deductible to the
extent permissible by federal law. Please join our team of "guardian
angels" and help us raise $12'000 to rebuild the "Silver Burrito"
by the time I graduate this summer. Sam Breen
