Our Story

Devinshire Jamestown Pictures and Just Some Guy Productions partner together to present an original adaptation of "The Statement of Randolph Carter" by H. P. Lovecraft.

During an interrogation into the disappearance of Professor Harley Warren, Randolph Carter recounts their foray into the dark cemetery, where he and Warren excavate a grave - revealing a passage to a dark underworld. Carter's recollection of events take the detectives (and the audience) through the horrifying events of the night, leading up to the terror of what lies beneath the stone slab in the graveyard!

The Impact

Howard Phillips Lovecraft was arguably the most influential horror writer of the early 20th century, having an impact on such story tellers as Robert Bloch ("Psycho") and Stephen King. Before Lovecraft, only Edgar Allan Poe delved into the dark horror of the thriller story with such effect.

The challenge with Lovecraft stories is in the adaptation. Many have tried, many have failed to capture the essence of what made Lovecraft so effective. Much of that has to do with the fact that a lot of Lovecraft stories were written in the first person, with very few secondary characters.

Our plan is to maintain the first-person narrative structure, using it as a springboard to show the various scenes described by Carter in the short story. We'll be telling the story in period (1920s), which will influence the visual style and tone of the film.
