The Band of Gold

Many cadets within the Long Grey Line of our institution matriculated with a steadfast vision to one day wear the band of gold. The unique ring would permanently bond them as brothers and sisters in the same community, and each of them would travel the world with equal values of honor and duty and civility. Unfortunately, for reasons beyond the control of a few of these fine cadets, the financial resources needed have presented an unforeseeable challenge to attain their class rings…until now.

The Impact

The Ltc. Harvey M. Dick Group will rise to such occasions and annually purchase the earned bands of gold for a qualified number of recipients.  Just as the namesake of this foundation frequently gave, which earned him the nickname of The Ring Man to those cadets in need, so will his legacy in order to maintain his charitable tradition. Though gifting the ring is the primary objective of the foundation, it will not limit available financial resources to the community of cadets who find themselves in need for family commitments beyond the walls of our institution. In return, the foundation simply asks that the recipients contribute resources when possible to uphold the generosity of the Fund.

The Pitch

Ltc. Harvey Dick’s family and the founding members of the group have pledged the initial contributions into the Fund, and ask that those who feel this is a worthy cause do the same alongside us. The group will become a 501(c)3 in the near future but firmly believes the resources needed to accomplish our goals outweigh the immediate need for a tax deduction today.

Every little bit will help in this cause and we only ask that you give what you can afford. If that amount is $100 - fantastic, if that amount is $53 (in honor of Ltc Harvey Dick's class) that is just as cool, even $19.53 would a great way for us to move this forward and honor Ltc Harvey Dick.

Other Ways You Can Help

As a member of The Long Grey Line, we ask that you help us spread the word among your fellow grads. Email your classmates, post it on Facebook, Twitter it, send it by smoke signal - help us succeed in honoring one of the most beloved graduates The Citadel has ever produced.
