Our Story
"The Revolution" is a short film about a man who fought for his dream of making music with his college band, but those dreams fell apart. He gave up music and the stage. Now, 30 years later, middle aged, tired, and passed up for promotion by someone younger at his corporate job, he decides to find the guys in the old band, get them back together and do what he loves to do. He convinces them but actually managing to get it together and get over the issues that originally tore them apart will be a challenge. Can they even manage to play a local open mic competition without falling apart again? His life has changed and he is no longer the person he was. How will his family respond? Will they be supportive? Will he realize his dreams are foolish or will he abandon his family? Will he be able to find a balance between the people that he loves and what he needs for himself?
A general comedic tone with some punctuated dramatic moments. It is not a story about a man having a midlife crisis and wanting to reclaim his youth only to learn he needed to grow up. It's a story about a man who didn't allow himself to be who he really is, who he needs to be, by stopping himself from doing what he loves and standing up to say screw the status quo: it doesn't matter how crazy it sounds or how old you are you can always do what you love.
The Impact
"The Revolution" represents the protagonist's band, but it is more than that. It is the music in his life, it is his story, it is his silver lining. At the heart of "The Revolution" is a story that we can all identify with. The film depicts the moments in a person's life when they realize that the choices made may or may not have been the choices that should have been made. It is the story of a person who decides to throw caution to the wind and set out on a foolhardy adventure to reignite the flame of passion in their life. It is the story of every single person on this team, and many of you reading these words, who have made the thing we love a part of our lives in some way despite signs on the road pointing in the other direction. We strongly believe in the journey of this man as we discover it. We also believe that this story, while told many times before, needs to be told again.
The soul of filmmaking lies in story. Simultaneously, its purpose is connecting to and reflecting the human experience. Sometimes it reminds us of our darkest potential in a hope that we may cathartically move towards the light. Other times, as is our hope with this film, it needs to remind us about the laughter, the love, and the passion that we often take for granted or ignore completely in our day to day routines. It needs to remind us to stop and smell the roses no matter how old we are or what people may say. It needs to inspire us to live.
We hope to inspire, and we hope that you can help us do that!
What We Need & What You Get
We're trying to raise at least 10K. Yupp. 10K. Which sounds like a lot! So we come to a very important question: Why do you need so much money? We asked ourselves the same thing! Over our careers as filmmakers we have learned that this art is a constant battle between wanting to spend as little as possible without sacrificing the vision, but having to spend that money on really expensive stuff. When you break it down: film, gas, locations, costumes, props, food, and equipment are what we need at the most basic and those can be expensive.
Thanks to the amazing structure of the Chapman University film program (ftv.chapman.edu), we start off with a decent budget, but we need YOUR support in order to do the following:
- Make sure that we can film in the right places to tell the story in a way that makes sense and you will enjoy. It would be great if everyone let us film in their house or place of business for free, but think about it, if we filled your house of shop with 30+ people and tons of equipment for 12 hours, wouldn't you want some sort of compensation? Your support will help us give back to others who help us!
- Make sure that those 30+ people above who have agreed to help us out for free for 10 12 hour days get fed well!
- Make sure we have enough film to tell the entire story!
- Make sure we have the tools we need to tell it right!
- Help us pay for the rights to songs that will rock your socks off!
But this isn't all about us! We don't just want to take your money, we want to make you part of the team! If you check out the tiers listed on the right or watch the video above it will lay out some of the perks you can get for helping us out! We'll make sure to keep you up to date with everything that happens and hopefully give you the chance to join us on some of our adventures!
Other Ways You Can Help
If you would like to help us out in other ways, please make sure to share this with everyone you know! If lots of people throw in $5, or $20, then we reach our goals faster! Also that means more people are involved in making art happen and that is also really important! So Tweet us! Facebook Message us! Email us! Bebo Us! Chat us! and Text us! to everyone you know who might be willing to buy one less cup of coffee this week and help support the arts! The more you help us to get the message out there, the more we get closer to the finish line! Let's all work together!
