In February, on Strike.TV, we launched the first season of our web-series The Real Girls Guide to Everything Else. Our mission: to create a funny, unapologetically feminist series with a multi-ethnic cast that would tackle important social and political issues. Still, we wonderedcould feminism befunny? Would female audiences go for a lead who wore steel-toed boots and eschewed shopping in favor of hard-hitting political journalism?
Over the past few months of rave reviews, festival invitations and a nationally broadcast interview on NPR we have gotten our answera resounding HELL, YEAH!
So where do we go from here? Real Girls (Season 1) was made possible by people like you. People who support independent, socially conscious work that lives outside the prime-time box and who see the internet not only as a way to promote programming thats not compromised by corporate interests, but as a vehicle for social change.
In the Spring of 2011 we plan to shoot a 10 episode season even more deliciously outrageous and hard-hitting than our first (yes, the rumors of a Bollywood musical number are true!!), and are seeking your partnership in this endeavor. Please consider making your tax-deductible contribution TODAY!
