THE FILM

After almost a year of development, we are now only weeks away from production. That being said, a lot has changed with the story. On top of these changes, we have decided to take a unique approach to the production of this film. Since our cast is filled with predominantly non actors, we are going to be using a lot of situational improvisation for our film.  We hope this will create a comfortable atmosphere for our "Actors" to explore the story in a way that memorizing a script would prevent them from doing.

The Brass Tax

Our film is about what it means to follow your dreams, good and bad, and some of the things you think you need to do in order to achieve them.

THE TEAM

WRITER/DIRECTOR

ADAM J MCKAY - was raised in South Porcupine, Ontario. During middle school is when Adam first noticed the potential for using video as a means to entertain, when his teachers and classmates would frequently anticipate his video projects with excitement. However, it wasn't until years later, while attending the University of Ottawa for Theatre Arts, that Adam fully realised his passion for film and dropped out of University to pursue a film career full time. It was then that he teamed up with Alex Coulson in their hometown of Timmins, Ont to make "Tango", a short sketch that went on to play at the Cinefest Sudbury International Film Festival. In 2009 Adam attended Capilano University's Motion Picture Production Program in Vancouver, B.C. It was there that he learned about the structure and dynamic of making motion pictures and met future co-Producer Annalise Stuart.

WRITER/DIRECTOR

ALEX COULSON -  was raised in Porcupine, Ontario. From short films to family videos, Alex uses any opportunity he can to utilize his love for directing, shooting, and editing. After high school Alex was hired by the local news station to work as a video journalist and editor. The following year, Alex moved to Vancouver with his best friend Adam J. McKay. There they attended Capilano University for the Motion Picture Production Program. Currently Alex works as a Production Assistant and occasionally an Extra in an effort to save money for the project that will be undertaken this summer.

PRODUCER

ANNALISE STUART - received a Bachelor's Degree from Carleton University in Ottawa but, soon realized her heart belonged to filmmaking. She then moved back to Vancouver, BC to attend film school at Capilano University where she met her future colleagues Adam McKay and Alex Coulson. She spent the following summer producing shorts for her peers as well as acting as a publicist for a feature at the Vancouver International Film Festival. She now owns her own production company based out of Vancouver called True To Life Media Inc. that will be producing their first feature film.

THE IMPACT

This film will be one of the first ever feature length films to be both shot and set in Northern Ontario. In doing this we want to send the message to the youth of the North that any career path is possible. It can be very hard for young creative people in the North, but we want to be proof that if your passionate and never give up on your dreams you can be successful in any field of your choosing. But without the help of all of you guys who are reading this right now, we won't be able to make this dream a reality.

To qualify for many of the grants in Canada, one must often have a few feature length films or award winning shorts under their belt. This makes it incredibly difficult for emerging artists to find the money it takes to pursue their dreams. Which often leads to independent filmmakers taking on large amounts of debt in order to make their films. However due to recent boom in the use social media and crowd funding, it is now possible for filmmakers to raise the money they need to complete their projects. This is where you come in.

HOW WE PLAN TO DO IT

As I write this we are about 5 weeks away from shooting. We still have some money to raise, locations to lock and some logistics to figure out, but we are definitely on track to making this an amazing project. THANK YOU SO MUCH TO EVERYONE WHO HAS HELPED SO FAR. IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE WITHOUT YOUR SUPPORT.

WHAT WE NEED

The total budget for the production of our film is $22,000 and we're asking for $15,000 from you guys. This is our first feature film and the more money we get the easier it will be to produce a better film. We are going to try to get as much as we can through donations of any kind, from our friends and family and the Northern Ontario community. The more we get in donations, the more money we can put into better catering/craft service and cast/crew wages. This is where the money will go:

Wages for Cast and Crew - $5650

Catering - $3500

Equipment/Rentals - $6800

Art Department - $1100

Travel - $2000

Contingency - $3000

EDIT: We do have have an investor who has come through outside of Indie Gogo, but we have nowhere near our $22,000. So let's spread this campaign like wild fire and help us reach that $15,000 goal on here.

WHAT YOU GET

On top of the Perks you see on the sidebar, you will have the immense satisfaction of knowing you are directly supporting the Arts in Canada, and that makes you awesome!

OTHER WAYS YOU CAN HELP

Don't have the cash? Don't worry about it. You can help us in a slew of other ways.

We are also currently still looking for a web designer to help redesign our website. If you can, or know someone who might be willing to give us a hand, send them our way.

Have an old Generator? Clothes? Props?

Own a grocery store? Willing to donate some food for the production?

Have a van we can use for production?

Want to be an extra?

Volunteer some time on set?

All of these things would help us a great deal. But the easiest thing to do, is simply spread the word. Send this page to every single person you know, the more people that know about our project the better.
