In the last year many people have said to me…

…“you want to independently make a young adventure scifi?? With photo-realistic CG creatures and tons of rich visual effects??? CAN’T BE DONE for less than $15Million!”

I don’t believe that.

My name is Jedidiah Burdick. I’m a writer/director in Massachusetts, and I’m part of a team that is well along in making a super cool monster film (set in the 1950s) for a young market.

SYNOPSIS

At the heart of any great film is of course a hollywood formula compelling story. Ours is about a 15 year-old boy named Colin who has just moved to a new town in the middle of nowhere. He meets a girl (Grace, 15) who is everything he wants. She’s smart, brave, adventurous… and driven.

Grace, who was raised by her uncle, is bound and determined to uncover the mystery surrounding her missing parents, and quickly draws Colin into her world.

Through a series of events the two new friends (plus another) become lost deep in the heart of an endless southern swamp. They discover the remains of a secret WWII government group, which ten years prior did genetic studies on cross breeding species for use in the war.

OUR PHILOSOPHY ON VISUAL EFFECTS

It seems to us, that with the exception of a few notable scifi adventures, many of the young VFX heavy films that Hollywood churns out seem to lack compelling emotional connection, high concepts, and (surprisingly)… even plot.

We won’t sacrifice story for visual effects… we believe that with the right story (high concept, character driven), these photo-realistic effects are really just a powerful tool for helping the audience connect to the bones of the story.

A film like this does cost some money to make… but not nearly what Hollywood spends on it.

This film is now positioned to take off, but we have finally reached a point where we must raise the proper seed money to launch us from development to pre-production.
