The Film

The Lake tells the story of two sisters, each dealing in her own way with the childhood loss of their father. Claire still lives at home with Mom and spends her days on the lake in their father's old rowboat. Laney has built her own life in the city, but when she comes back to visit, the sisters' discoveries will dredge up the past and the secrets that bind this family together may just tear them apart.

Behind the Scenes

Tarakata Films is a DC-based independent production company dedicated to producing affecting, character driven, and often quirky films. Our goal is to create work for the talented, passionate, and hardworking film professionals in the DC/Baltimore area. We also strive to promote the role of women in filmmaking and to produce films that feature interesting, complex female characters, especially in the horror genre.

PRODUCTION TEAM:

Tara Garwood, writer and director of The Lake, is currently finishing the Digital Filmmaking program at Boston University's Center for Digital Imaging Arts. Born and raised in the DC suburbs, Tara has been acting professionally since the age of twelve. She founded and served for three years as Artistic Director for the first traditional Grand Guignol theatre company on the East Coast. It was there that Tara became enamored with the satisfaction of seeing a production through from beginning to end. However, her geeky side would not let her be satisfied with that. She began studying radio production, then video editing, and found that filmmaking was her true love. Tara's first short film, "Lonely" (a post-apocalyptic love story... with zombies), has been an official selection in three film festivals: HorrorFind Film Festival 2010, Horror Society Film Festival 2010, and Balticon 2011.

William R. Coughlan is an award-winning screenwriter and director, and is one of the founders (and primary financier) of Tohubohu Productions  which basically means that even on pictures he doesnt direct, he can at least squeeze in an Executive Producer credit. He is also a director with The Advisory Board Company in Washington, D.C., where he began as a graphic designer before segueing into video and multimedia, and then eventually into the ranks of creative department management. He also enjoys acting, voiceover performance, design and illustration, editing, three-dimensional animation, and writing autobiographical comments in the third person. He is the illustrator of the therapeutic workbook Stories for Children with Problems & Wishes, has provided schematic graphics for several HBS case studies, designed the acclaimed Protg clay poker chip line, served as the Critic at Large for the online literary magazine Inkblots, was a judge for the 2010 TIVA Peer Awards, voiced the iHealthBeat and California Healthline weekly podcasts, and is an accomplished ambigram artist.
