Will vaguely remembers being happy – a painful reminder of the loss of his wife and young daughter in a car accident he was responsible for while on vacation. Unable to let go of their memory and unable to forgive himself he is driven to depression. He never returned to their home in New York or his job as a law-firm partner; but stays behind…on his boat, far enough away from the coast to be alone, but close enough to drink his pain away at night at the Dusty Bill.
Just when he reaches the brink of despair, word reaches him that a stranger visited the bar – a stranger named Angel who looks identical to his wife. After seeking her out, Angel seems to want to help Will deal with his grief. As he is slowly drawn out of his shell through Angels compassion and ability to get him to start forgiving himself, his hopes of a relationship with Angel are dashed when he sees her with someone else. Refusing to speak with Angel and confused over his emotions he quickly draws back into his reclusive life.
When the Dusty Bill is threatened by a developer who wants to build a hotel and strip mall; hes the only one who can save it, but to do so he will have to overcome his fears and guilt, and will he be ready for the surprise that awaits him back in New York? He will have to choose between his own happiness and the fate of his friends at the Dusty Bill.
